They say in silence for a few moments. Nick scrolled on his phone before he looked up, staring off at the road. “My parents are getting divorced,” he whispered, gripping his phone in hand.
-
“What?! Holy s----“ Clay took a deep breath as he kept his focus on the road, glancing at Nick. “Are- s---, I don’t know what to say, I’m so sorry, dude-“
-
“Yeah,” Nick said softly, wringing his hands together. “It was my mom’s fault, she cheated. Not that big of a deal, honestly. But I blew up at them and that’s why I can’t drive. Just thought I’d tell you,” he added, rubbing his face.
-
“s---, I’m sorry, dude,” Clay said, slowing to a stop at a red light. “And, hell, I’d be pissed, too- That- That really sucks, I’m sorry.”
-
“Yeah,” Nick said softly, shrugging. “But it is what it is. I feel like it was bound to happen at some point.”
-
Clay watched Nick for a moment before looking back, driving once the light turned green. He wasn’t sure what else to say, or if there even was something he could say.
-
Nick looked out the window, trying to hold back tears. “Where did you guys f---?” He asked a few seconds later, glancing at Clay with a forced smile.
-
Clay blushed red, rolling his eyes with a chuckle. “Just at my house, that day we left early-“
-
Nick forces a quiet chuckle, rubbing his face. “Bro, since George showed up you guys have literally been leaving early every day.”
-
“Well, I mean, can you blame us? School’s boring,” Clay replied, chuckling softly. He glanced over at Nick, watching him for a second before looking away. “You sure you’re okay?”
-
“Yep,” Nick said softly, dismissing it quickly. “But dude, you never used to skip school. Now you skip every other day. Your mom cannot like that, right?”
-
“Probably not, but I think she’s pitying me because of the Jolie drama,” Clay said, pulling into the driveway of their house.
-
“Oh, gotcha,” Nick said with a nod, unbuckling and quickly opening the car door. “What movie are we watching?”
-
“Not sure- You got some suggestions?” He asked his friend as he climbed out of the car, locking it. He walked over to the front door and unlocked it, heading inside the house.
-
“Uh, s---, I’m blanking,” Nick said, forcing a chuckle.
