"Repeat after me." The Tsar said.
"I Hereby swear my loyalty to the Tsar,
And promise to abide by the rules of the Game
A duel of enchantment, until a winner is declared,
To this and all traditions here before established, i commit myself,
As an enchanter in The Crown's Game."
Jasmine repeated the oath, and as the enchanters spoke the last word, a searing pain in her collarbone stole her attention, and she gasped softly. on her collarbone, a bright red scar of crossed wands had appeared. "who is enchanter one?" the Tsar asked. -
"You alright?" Robin asked Jasmine quietly, the only words they'd spoken besides the oath, which he said in a rush to get it over with.
-
"Yes." Jasmine whispered through clenched teeth. "He's enchanter one." She said to the Tsar.
-
Robin gave a small nod, still worried about Jasmine.
-
"You have first turn.the longer you go without taking it the more your scar will burn." The Tsar said. He walked back through the rock without another word. "How are you not reacting to the scar?" Jasmine asked.
-
They shrugged. "It doesn't hurt." He said quietly. "Are you sure you're alright?"
-
"yea. i've had worse." she couldn't let them know what she was weak to. this was a game; if she lost, she'd lose not only the job as Imperial Enchanter, but her life as well. "the whirlwind's going to be here soon, so come here. it's an old tradition for mentor's to give their charges a parting gift. we can't be here during the game to help you." Ms Calliope smiled. "here's my gift to you." she pulled Jasmine to the side so no one else heard. she opened her hand to see a small diamond it her hand. "this is not an ordinary diamond. it's a wishing diamond, from a secret mine a previous Imperial Enchanter created. i acquired one for you. when the time is right, this diamond will make only your deepest wish come true, so make sure it's a good one." she whispered to Jasmine, who took the gem and put it in the small pouch attached to a necklace on her neck. it only held the most important things, including her father's last coins he had in his pockets when he died. it was the only thing Ms Calliope allowed her to keep.

Mrs. Zia pulled Robin aside and handed him a ring with a blue crystal embedded in it that he couldn't quite identify. He was puzzled as to why Zia would give them a ring until she explained. "This ring harnesses the power of water. You can only use it 3 times before it becomes an ordinary ring, so use it wisely." Robin nodded, sliding it on his finger along with the one other ring he had, one his uncle gave him on his 11th birthday. "I'll win Mrs. Zia." They promised quietly, and his mentor just looked at him with a sad smile, like she was already choosing what flowers he'd like best in his funeral.

A gush of wind came soon after the mentors gave the enchanters their gift, and they disappeared in a POOF, most likely reappearing in Siberia. Jasmine gave Robin a side eye before quickly leaving the mountain, conjuring up an enchanted leaf that would carry her back to Saint Petersburg, which some called "The Venice of the North." And "The Paris of the East."
-
(Sorry, just to confirm, what does it mean by taking a turn?)
Robin walked around the mountain, still amazed by the amount of detail and care taken into it before the mountain. "Alright, where to now?" They said to himself. He didn't have anywhere to go besides Mrs. Zia's house, and he knew that he couldn't go there anymore. -
(Ah, sorry. Taking a turn is to enchant something. Mostly something grand, not just a small thing. Like, in the book, one of the enchanters made the rivers change colors constantly. The other enchanter refaced the whole city.)
Jasmine stayed floating in the sky on her leaf for a few minutes while she watched the other enchanter. She didn't know what to make of him, yet. He had seemed awfully nice while taking the oath;but it could be an act. Ms Calliope told her that even if someone appeared to be one of the nicest people in the world, they could be very ugly on the inside. She couldn't trust them, not yet. Not with her life on the line. -
Robin waved when he noticed Jasmine every once in a while. You have to kill her. his mind whispered even though he tried to squash those thoughts out. If you want to win. They winced, both at the pain of the crossed wands scar and the fact that he had to kill someone. Not just anyone- someone as old as him, if not younger. The thought made him sick, and he didn't want to think about it.
-
Jasmine looked puzzled at the wave, then commanded her leaf to bring her quickly to Saint Petersburg to think of strategies.
-
Robin walked down the hill, using magic to go faster. Once he got to a normal city he went into a cafe and tried to think of ways they could win.
-
Coincidentally, Jasmine was already in the same cafe. Sitting in a corner booth sipping a cup of jasmine tea and eating black bread, she looked up when she heard the door open.
