Theo played with her hair. "I'm sorry." He told her even though he had nothing to be sorry for.

"For you feeling like you're doing what you're dad is supposed to."

'I am doing what he's supposed to,' Hazel huffed. She lay down, resting her head in his lap. 'But he's never around anymore, and the kids won't listen to his girlfriend.'

"So why don't you tell him that?" Theo asked. "Sounds like he ought to hear it."

'He won't listen,' Hazel mumbled. 'He'll probably just send me to my room again.'

"For what? Telling him to be a better parent?"

Hazel chuckled weakly. 'Yeah, that. Adults don't seem to like it when you point out their flaws.'

"I could tell him." Theo suggested. "He might respect the opinion less if it comes from me, but then he wouldn't be mad at you." -
'No,' Hazel said. 'Absolutely not. I'm not tying you up in all this.'

'Too bad.' Hazel looked up at him. 'You're the only one in this house not involved in all this stupid drama. Please?' -
"Fine." Theo said after a bit. "But somebody ought to tell him. You don't deserve to be the babysitter all the time."
