He noticed her looking at his gun, so he tried to hide it as best he could. “I won’t shoot you, if that’s what you’re thinking.” He added quickly, messing with one of his sleeves as he spoke. “I’m mostly trying to, uh, help people who are running away from the war. I just have it in case someone tries to kill me.”

Frieda stared at him for a moment, scanning her mind for what 'uhh' meant in English. Her shoulders relaxed a bit at him saying he wouldn't shoot her, but she still remained tense. 'Even the Germans?' she asked, growing more and more curious. England was against Germany in this war.

He paused for a moment before slowly nodding. “If I’m being honest, I didn’t really choose to be in this war. Like, at all. Mum and Dad kind of forced me.” Jack explained, grimacing. He wanted to say that he hated hurting people as well, but he felt like that made him look weak, so he left that part out. -
Frieda gave a small smile. 'Hitler made it a rule nobody could leave Germany during the war. When the messenger finally came, it was too late...' she trailed off, pulling her coat tighter around her. It was too cold, her lungs hurt from trying to breathe in the frosty air. Her voice cracked and was croaky.
