"Uhm..." Oberon thought for a moment. "You've already seen the light, so..." He drew a rune in the dirt, and flowers sprung up around it. "There that, and this." He drew another rune, an the flowers crumbled. "But that rune is less used."
-
Akari watched as the flowers crumbled down into dirt. 'That's so cool,' she muttered.
-
Oberon smiled. "There's this rune," he drew another rune, which made a gentle breeze. "And it's counterpart." He drew another, and the breeze stopped.
-
'Magic is so awesome,' she said, grinning. 'Can you do something less natural, like putting a storm in a jar or making flowers a weird colour? Or flying!'
-
"No to the flying one, and i haven't tried to bottle a storm, but i can change the color of a flower." He drew the rune for the flowers again, and roses popped up. Oberon cleared his throat and drew another rune, which turned the red roses white. He then got an idea. "Would you like to learn?"
-
'Could I? Do you only need to draw the runes, or do you have to be magic?'
-
"You have to be magic, but we've developed these crystal necklaces," he pulled a necklace from under the collar of his shirt and showed it to her. "For the elves born without them. There's been mutations where the magic gene has been left out, so we get these. Kinda like how if you have bad eyesight, you get glasses. It helps us."
-
'Are humans magic?'
-
"No." Oberon says. "That may be why the human king betrayed us in the first place, because he was jealous." He sighed. "We can get you one of these, but for now you can borrow mine."
-
'No, I couldn't take yours! I'll probably break it or something!'
-
"It's fine, I can get another one. You do want to learn magic, don't you?" He assured Akari.
-
Her caution was quickly overtook by her curiosity. 'If you're sure,' Akari responded.
-
"I'm sure." Oberon says, taking the necklace off and giving it to Akari.
-
Akari put the crystal necklace over her head and on her neck, the stones cold against her skin. 'Which rune first?' she asked, a note of excitement in her voice.
-
"How about the flower one?" he suggests, drawing the rune as demonstration.
