It was an ordinary day for Myr, just like any other in the land of Paldirone. Children joyously yelled and screamed, soaring just above the ground on miniature fake staffs as their parents chattered about the latest news.
"Did you hear-"
"The queen-"
"Yes, the queen-"
"Sent a summons-"
"Summons to-"
The snatched whispers were just detectable, until one of them piped up rather loudly, "No, did she really? To who?"
"Quiet, you confounded trout! I'm getting to there," came the quick response.
Myr walked over to the window which she had cracked open for a little air and snapped it shut. Gossip makes your tongue grow long like a lizard, her mother used to say. Anyone could discern that wasn't true, but the threat remained ever present in young Myr's mind. Especially since her mother hexed her tongue to grow that long, just to prove a point.
Needless to say, their relationship had always been rather strained. But at least they agreed on one thing. Idle chatter was pointless and was the mark of common folk. She had much more important things to do, like study the latest rune that caught her eye.
She caught her faint reflection in the window. Orange eyes brought out by the eyeliner she wore to make them pop. Messy dark hair with a lone, dim purple streak. At first an act of rebellion, now something she was fond of and would not part with. It was permanent anyway. Her mother had made that quite clear after doing everything in her power to charm it off. She smiled for a moment, then stopped, because it looked unnatural on her. Her reflection's lips curved down into a frown. There. That was more like it.
She heard a sound similar to a whoosh and whipped around, pressing herself against the window as she saw people tumbling onto the floor out of a portal by her desk. -
Lucas sat up, dazed, then looked around in awe. he realized he was in a library, with books lining the walls all around. he saw the others, and scooted away, until he bumped into someone. he looked up and saw a girl with black hair and a purple streak in it. "sorry!" he exclaims, standing up and back away from her too.
-
Adriana rubbed her eyes, making sure she wasn't just dreaming waking up in a completely different place. She felt sleepy enough she might as well have been. But the stinging in her eyes from the rubbing and the pain in her bottom from the fall assured her that this was no dream. "Where in the world are we?" she asked.

Aaron ascended out of his slumber, his head throbbing with an appalling ache. He squinted at the fluorescent lights which had been glaring down upon him; every few minutes or so, the lights would abruptly cease and grow dim, before rising to their full light again.
He winced, sprawling his hands out to assess the flooring as he adverted his gaze forward to perceive his surroundings.
Bewildered, intrigued, and frightened as it had all occurred so swiftly, he heaved himself to his feet into an upright stance, before stumbling onto a nearby bookshelf to support his weight.
"What?" He uttered, still processing the situation he was currently in. He discerned several other people in this peculiar location; he had no knowing whether they were like him and had gotten mysteriously hurled into here, or whether they had been here before this incident.
Aaron deliberately assumed the first option. -
Lenore groaned, rubbing her head. What happened?
When she focused her gaze well enough to look in front of her, she spotted a girl with black and purple hair. She opened her mouth but couldn’t seem to talk, so she looked elsewhere and found rows upon rows of bookshelves. Whoa, she thought.
