Mercury nodded. "Ready as I'll ever be."

Pebblenose purred. "Good." She pressed her paw on her belly. "Push!"

Mercury bit the stick hard. She felt pain with every push. She then fainted after her final push.

Pebblenose realized she had fainted. Before a kit could suffocate she licked the gunk off their pelts. The first one was a hazel kitten with darker hazel markings like a potoo bird. She had unique ring markings around her tiny paws that were the same color as Mercurysplash. The second one was tinier than all the others. She was all white except for some grey and dark grey markings around her pelt. The third one was grey but when she lined up her legs in a certain way the markings connected like a forest trail. The fourth one was white with a light grey stripe all down to his head to tail. The fifth was all white but was born with a pale scar along his nose that had red speckles. The sixth one didn't seem to move. He looked like the fifth one but without the scar. Pebblenose looked down sadly at the dead kitten and picked it up by his scruff. "I'll name you Spiritkit" Her voice was muffled. She put him in the corner where no one could see him. She gently shook Mercury by her shoulder as the hungry kits began mewing.

Mercury looked at the kits. She smiled. "Jupiter we have our own kits." She said as she fed the hungry kits.

Jupitershock walked back into the. "Oh my. . . just look at them. . ." Pebblenose looked back into the corner. She showed the two cats what had happened. "I-I'm so sorry. I Didn't get the stuff off of him in time. . ." Her eyes clouded and her voice was shaky. Jupiter gasped gently, trying not to disturb the other kits.

"Jupiter it's ok." Mercury assured Jupiter.

Jupitershock fur bristled not with anger but with sadness. She sighed. "It's not your fault Pebblenose." Tears appeared in her eyes. "I-It's just a part o-of life."

Mercury padded towards Jupiter. She then licked her fur. "It's ok." She said as she crouched next to her.

Jupitershock looked down at the kits. "Do you want to decide their names. . ?"

"Ok lets see." Mercury said as she started with the first she-cat. "Pootokit." She then pointed at the second she-cat. "Trailkit." She the pointed at the third and final she-cat. "Berrykit." She the pointed to the first tom. "Lizardkit." She finally pointed to the last one. "Dustkit."

"Their names are lovely." Pebblenose purred. "I'll let you two have some time alone." She mewed as she walked out of the den. "I love them so much. . ." Jupiter licked his mate's and all the kits heads.
