Libra nodded. "I know." Her face was streaked with grime, dirt and dust bunnies. "Soulmates," she whispered. "Isn’t that the kind of word they use in fairytales?"
-
"I know, it's so weird," Dorian shook his head. A thought occurred to him. "It's going to be a normal marriage ceremony," he said thoughtfully.
-
Libra refused to meet his eyes. "So?" She had developed an obsession with her own feet.
-
"We just don't say 'I do,'" he said. "And then if we really are soulmates, we wait until we're ready to be in a relationship."
-
-
"I’m ready." Libra met his eyes begrudgingly. "What about you?" She scowled at her bare feet. "Is there really a choice?" she added bitterly.
-
"Do you want to do this?" Dorian said. "Forget the Matching Crown, forget choices, forget everything else. Do you want to get married in a month to me?"
-
Libra took a deep breath, and a lopsided smile formed. Inclining her head, she pointed out, "You said to forget choices. Asking me if I want to get married to you is going to involve me making a choice."
-
"I meant other people and things making choices for us," Dorian said. "Do you want to marry me in a month?"
-
Her eyes glimmered in the sunlight. "I still need to think about it," she admitted. "I’m not sure… it all seems so sudden."
-
Dorian nodded. Then he said, "It's tradition for the natched to go on a date the night after they are matched."
-
Libra grinned at him goofily. "So, who are the Matched?" she teased. "I’d like to see what they’re doing right now."
-
"Oh who knows?" Dorian said with a dramatic, very unprincely shrug.
-
-
"Hm. Perhaps they’re sitting on a dirt path right now? I’m really not sure, Drama King." She slugged him playfully.
