Wren gave a large flinch when the knife came at her. After a moment she opened her eyes. No pain, no blood, no ropes tied around her. Wren flew up and started backing away from Ravius.
-
"I wouldn't do that if I were you," Ravius said. "The only way out for you, my dear, is up. Which is precisely where you'll be going."
-
"What?" Wren asked in confusion. She looked to the top of the room to see if he meant there.
-
Ravius shook his head with a low laugh. "Oh no, no, no! You misunderstand me. We're going to the roof."
-
Wren looked a him. He wasn't going to push her off was he?
-
"Come along, little songbird," Ravius said, opening the door to the stairs. "I can carry you if you want."
-
"Don't you dare touch me," Wren said as she walked through the door.
-
Ravius sighed. "Touchy. Alright then, up we go."
He had a length of rope and he swung it from side to side as they went up the many flights of stairs. An occasional centipede scuttled around their feet or a rat squeaked in alarm, scampering out of their way and disappearing back into the dark refines of the building. -
As they were going up Wren tried to remember which building this large in the city would be abandoned. Or what if it wasn't in the city? She didn't know how long she had been out for.
-
When they reached the top, Ravius pushed a door open. The creaks and groans seemed to say that it had been a long time since this place had been taken care of. The two were suddenly bombarded with wild winds, whipping around them and snatching at whatever they could get.
-
Wren held here hair in one hand so that it wouldn't fly in her face and her skirt in the other so that it wouldn't fly up. She was wearing shorts underneath, but she didn't care.
-
"Well go on then," Ravius said casually. "It's time to finish what was started."
He looked, in the straightforward sense of the word, evil. His lips twitched every so often into a smirk and his eyes glittered darkly. -
Wren looked at him in obvious confusion and didn't move.
-
Ravius sighed. "I have to do everything myself then, don't I?"
He pushed her, not firmly enough to make her fall over but not gentle either. "We have to go to the edge." -
Wren stumbled but was able to regain her balance. She looked back to see that Ravius would unrelenting. She knew he would be but she had hoped that there would be even a hint of guilt, regret, something that could help her.
Wren slowly walked to the edge. Her hands were clasped together and she held them against her chest. She had never favored heights.
