Later, Mari woke to find someone crouched over her. She gasped in alarm and tried to get up, only to fall back down again. Strangely, though, she recognized the face of the person.
Liam. She was safe—well, not safe—not even remotely, but she was glad that Liam was here. -

Liam let out a sigh of relief. “Oh thank Irene! I couldn’t tell if you were breathing or not!” He muttered.

Mari glared at him. "I always get back up." Her gaze softened, and she suddenly seemed to be in a sentimental mood. Mari whispered something to herself, as if scolding herself quietly. "Thank you for helping me." Then she walked away calmly without a second glance at Liam.

“Heh...no problem...” Liam said, standing up. He watched her for a moment before following behind her. “You alright..?”

"Yes, I’m fine." There was a sharp edge to her words.

Liam cringed. “If you say so...” He said, throwing the rag into a abandoned trash bin.

Mari strolled into an alleyway, not caring if Liam was behind her or not.

Liam followed behind her, glancing behind his back.

"Go away, Liam." Her tone was cold and sharp. "We’re both on our own now."

Liam stopped in his tracks, clearly hurt by her tone. He was silent, staring at her with wide eyes.
