Mari felt a pair of her eyes other than her own staring at her. Warily, she didn't move. If you moved, you attracted attention. If you didn’t, well, eyes were going to be locked on you anyway. Marigold figured she would amuse the intruder and stay still until she knew for sure that they were an enemy. Besides, Mari didn’t get many visitors. Her stomach growled at her, as if scolding her for not eating. Mari countered, What good would it do to eat? and her stomach finally came to its senses and stayed silent.
-
Liam slowly walked up to the figure in the darkness. He didn’t know if it was an enemy, but he will take chances if it means someone was on his side. “What side are you on?” He asked, taking cautious steps.
-
"Which side?" Mari repeated, snorting. "Whichever side isn’t trying to kill me." She rose, glancing at him pointedly. "And seeing as you don’t have a gun trained on me, I'd think your side." Marigold sat back down again. "What about you?"
-
Liam let out a sigh of relief. “Same as you. I don’t go around pointing guns or killing people, anyways.” He said, rolling his eyes.
-
Mari patted a crate next to her. "I'm Marigold, but call me Mari." She scowled when she said her full name and added, "You?" Mari reached into her pocket and came up with a knife. Casually, she held it out, offering it to Liam. It glinted in the sunlight. "Backup weapon," she explained, smiling in a dangerous way.
-
Liam came over and sat on the crate next to her. “I’m Liam, and thanks.” He replied, taking the sharp object and examining it. “I haven’t used a knife in a little while.”
-
"You're welcome. I think we'll have a chance to protect ourselves with our weapons." She drew a knife of her own. It was spotless. "New one I got from some idiot who tried to kidnap me," she elaborated.

Liam sucked in a breath, raising his eyebrows. “Oh...that must have been...” His voice trailed off, feeling awkward. He wasn’t expecting that.
-
Mari paused. "What’s your story, if you don’t mind sharing?" She was curious at heart. "Sorry, I’m really nosy," she apologized.
-
Question, sorry for stopping. But, what type of story does she mean? Like, how he got into the mess, or like his childhood?))
-
His childhood))
-
Aright, thanks!))
Liam shrugged. “Well, I never had a dad. I don’t know what happened with him. Back then I had a bad temper and started fights a lot, causing me to be expelled twice. Not proud of my younger self, but I’ve grown over time.” He said, looking down. -
Mari didn’t say a word, just listening intently until he was done. She soaked up all the information like a sponge. Mari didn’t react or show any emotion until a few seconds after Liam had finished. "If you were a goody-two-shoes, would you have survived this long?" She started to continue, but feared that that was the wrong thing to say.
-
Liam looked up, considering the idea. “...No. I wouldn’t want to be like that, anyways. I was always taught kindness, which levels out my best friend’s personality.” He replied, remembering his friend’s short-temper.
