Callyn stepped into the car and gave a large sigh, trying to calm herself down.
-
Turner got in as well and gave Callyn a sympathetic look.
“You okay?” He asked. -
"Yeah," Callyn said in a low voice as she quickly buckled up.
They sat in silence for a few moments, until she spoke again.
"When I was seven, me, my mom and dad, we went on a camping trip. One time my father told us he was going to get some more wood for the campfire. After awhile my mom wondered what was taking so long so we went into the forest together to go find him and make sure he was okay. We didn't find him so we turned back. We were almost to the tent when we heard the car start. My mom and I hurried back to see my dad speeding off in the car, not giving us a second glance." -
"That's horrible! I'm so sorry you went through that, Callyn." Turner said, stopping the car and giving her a hug.
-
Callyn rested her head on his chest, finding comfort in his arms that she didn't thing she'd be able to find anywhere else. "I thought everything was fine, great, in fact. But he left...Mom blamed me for it. Somehow she had figured out how it was my fault. Maybe it was..."
-
Turner glared at Callyn and pInChEd HeR cHeEk.
"Don't be an idiot, it wasn't your fault." -
"Ow," she said, bringing her hand to her cheek. Once the momentary pain was gone she rested her hand on Turner's muscled chest.
"I know," she said. "But my mom made me believe it for over ten years. I guess that belief just...pops up sometimes. I just wished that I had an actual family." She sighed. -
"I do too." Turner said.
-
Callyn sighed and pulled herself out of Turner's arms. She missed his warmth as she settled back down in her seat. "We should go home," she said.
-
“Aight.” Turner said, smiling at Callyn and then turning his gaze to the road.
-
As soon as they arrived home Callyn bid Turner good night and went straight to bed, falling asleep immediately.
Meanwhile, Turner's father approached his son, who was sitting on the couch. "I told you I didn't want that girl back here," he said. -
“And I told you that I didn’t care about what you said.” Turner shot back.
-
"Don't you find it odd?" his father countered. "She's always asking things of you and you always do them. She has you wrapped around her little finger."
-
Turner stood there in shock for a moment before thinking.
What if his dad was right?
Callyn did ask him for things. -
"She knows you love her and she's using it to her advantage," his father continued. "Looking back, what's the biggest thing she's done for you?"
