Weddell understood her confusion. "You know what, I think I’ve got an old color wheel for art class." He led her upstairs and opened a closet. Picking it up, he taped it to a wall. "They're all labeled. Yellow, red, pink, purple. Plus, if you’ve got paint, it says how to make purple and green."
-
"I'm a sixteen year old learning what four year olds should know," Sofia scoffed at herself.
-
Weddell didn’t hear her. Also, gray clouds were forming outside; he could see them through the window.
-
"What's wrong?" Sophia asked, looking out the window he was. All she could see were big gray puffy things. Maybe those were what clouds were in books?
-
"It's going to rain soon," Weddell told her. "Oh. Yeah, those gray things in the sky are clouds. Usually they're white, but if they're gray, it means it's going to rain soon. Rain is bad in every way, except if you’re a farmer." Weddell bit his lip. He was about to say something else, but he kept himself from doing it.
-
"Why is it bad?" Sophia asked. "What's rain?"
(I like thunderstorms >:() -
(I agree, actually, but Weddell here doesn't...))
"Well, if you go outside, you get a dirty shower," Weddell explained. "And rain is basically small clumps of dirty water that form in clouds." -
"I've read of...thunder and lightning during rain," Sophia said. "What are those?"
-
"Thunder is a sound. It's very loud," Weddell answered. "And lightning is light that zigzags across the sky. Both of them happen at around the same time."
-
"Oh," Sophia said. She thought for a moment. Usually in books thunderstorms happened when everyone wasn't in a good mood, or they found the thunder comforting.
-
"And if thunderstorms happen to be in progression in the middle of the night, too bad. You'll be awake all night, trying to predict when it'll thunder again," Weddell added. "If you're not asleep already."
-
"You don't like them?" Sophia asked.
-
"No." Weddell shook his head. "I think they’re awful. Why do you sound so surprised? Do you like thunderstorms? Am I asking too many questions?" Weddell's curious personality was really starting to come out.
-
"I've never seen or heard a thunderstorm," Sophia said. "And don't worry, I like answering questions if I can."
-
"That's good, because if you didn’t, you’d be annoyed to death by me," Weddell replied. "And you've really never seen or heard one?" He found that hard to believe.
