(Shoot I wanted her name to be Sophia not Sarah. I'm changing it to Sophia)
861-53 followed the guard to the Library. She knew where the Library was, or course, she had read almost every book in it, but she didn't want to let the guard think she was equal to him in any way. She didn't look around as she walked there. Everything was gray. Gray walls, gray floors, gray uniforms for the prisoners darker gray for the guards, they ate a grayish mush they called oatmeal for every meal, you get the monochromatic picture.
861-53 entered the Library. There were two people there, a man and a woman sitting at a table in the far corner of the room. She stood in front of the table silent. She hardly dared believe this was happening.
"861-53," the man said. The girl that that code belonged to looked down at her arm as if to make sure that code was the correct one, even though she knew it was. She'd seen it printed on her arm for sixteen years it wasn't as if she was about to forget it.
"You will now be known as Sophia Denyer," the man said.
"I understand," she said. -
He pushed his hair back, deep in thought. He thought of his mother, of her sweet, strawberry-scented blonde hair, her bright green eyes, and a smile that still burned bright in his memory.
He had spent his whole life wanting to look like her, instead of being the perfect image of his father, but with her face and smile. His father, the crooked criminal, had gotten her arrested while she was pregnant with his sister. He had never seen either of them since. -
(Wait are they brother and sister or something?)
After the discussion in the Library (because I'm not going to go through this boring stuff), she was given a set of clothing.
She stared down at the fabric in her hands. She was told it was just a t-shirt and blue jeans. The t-shirt was white, which was the third most color she had seen all her life, but the pants were blue. A beautiful blue. She'd never seen any other color than gray, black and white all her life, unless you count that brief time when she was little kid and they had been taught to identify colors, but most people didn't. Most prisonborn could hardly remember their colors after this long.
"Go to the bathroom and change," the woman said. A guard seemed to appear out of nowhere ready to scan that she was going somewhere else in the building.
"Sophia will no longer need to be scanned," the woman told the guard.
861-53/Sophia looked at the guard then slowly walked out of the Library wonderstruck. Names were for freeborns and she was not a freeborn. It almost felt wrong to be given a name consisting.of letters rather than numbers.
She arrived at the bathroom and quickly got changed in one of the stalls. She admired how the fabric fit against her body so different from the uniforms she was used to wearing.
She walked out of the stall only to see another prisonborn girl. She glared at her, seeing her code tattooed on her arm and yet she wore proper clothing. "So you're the one they told us about at breakfast," she said.
861-53 slowly nodded. She hadn't really listened during breakfast, but she was pressuming so.
Suddenly her back was forced against the gray-tiled wall and the girls hand was at her throat. She gave a yelp in shock.
"Why you?" 865-48 said. Sophia had looked down at her arm to see her code. 865-48 pressed her hand against her throat harder. "How come out of all the prisonborn you were the one that was chosen." She spoke with a slightly raised voice.
861-53 shook her head, her lips shaping unspoken words. She tried to pry the hand away from her throat but her hands were too clumsy and not strong enough. She was struggling to breathe.
"Hurry up!" the guard outside said as he pounded on the door.
"Help!" Sophia managed to get out.
The guard slammed open the door, seeming unfazed that he was a man in the girl's bathroom and tore 865-48 off of her. Sophia fell to the ground gasping for breath. She looked up just in time to see there guard's baton fly up to beat 865-48. "No!" 861-53 nearly shouted but she was too late, the black wooden baton had already come down on the girl's back.
861-53 flinched away. She hated the guard's batons. She hated the guards. She hated the way they were treated. She hated the grayness of the place. She looked up at the mirror and saw her big gray eyes. She hated her eyes. She rushed out of the bathroom and swiftly walked back to the Library trying to make herself look presentable. -
Well no, unless you want it to be that way. I just needed something to dialogue off of so I choose to have that there lol))
Christmas...he shook his head with an expression that was a mixture of disbelief and amusement. His mother had always insisted on having special names.
Maybe my sister's named New Years, he thought with a smile. The smile faded away when he realized that he would never know. -
(Oh. I don't really care if we do it not)
(I keep on almost typing her code as 02084)
861-53 walked back to the Library the woman was a little startled that it looked as if Sophia looked like she had been crying but she just passed it off as shock and joy.
"Now, where you'll be living," the man said. He obviously didn't approve that the government was letting her into society. He wrote something down on a piece of paper. "This is where you'll be staying." He gave the piece of paper to her.
Sophia took the paper. The first part was a name. Christmas Evans. Wasn't Christmas a...what was it called...a holiday? The second part was a bunch of numbers and a few letters and some other things that also looked like names. She scrunched her eyebrows in confusion. "What is it?" she asked.
"Oh!" the woman realized and bustled over to her. She pointed at different parts of the paper. "This is a house number, this is the street, this is the city, the state, and the zip code."
"Okay..." Sophia said.
"Don't worry you'll get it eventually," the woman said with a wave of her hand as she made her way back to her seat. -
I feel that lol
When I saw code, I just went "02084!"))
Chris had heard that they would be releasing Prisonborns and like an idiot, he had applied for the slim chance that he would see "Evans" on that slip of paper. His heart sank when he saw the name "Sophia Denyer" instead.
He would probably get a psychopathic murderer in the house, considering the fact that all Prisonborns were supposed to turn out just like their parents. But his sister...he knew she would have been different. -
"I think we're all settled here," the man said. "Follow me." He stood up from his chair and walked out of the Library. He was taking her through a part of the facility that she didn't recognize. She realized that she was being led outside.
What did outside look like? Would it be gray just like the prison? Or would there be more? They reached a door. The man opened it and Sophia gasped at the sight. There were colors everywhere that she couldn't even describe.
"Come on," the man said and he led her to a large black metal thing with doors and wheels and windows. He walked to the thing and opened the door and sat down in the driver's seat. She did the same, but in a different seat.
Sophia gave a small "Oh!" when it started moving. She gripped the leather seats in surprise. She soon relaxed and looked out the window, watching the world pass by with startling speed. -
(I feel like when she gets there he'll try to stall and be like, "Sorry, I'll be back soon, I have an interview, don't touch anything!"
If he said that she wouldn't touch a single thing in that house XD) -
Pfft that would be accurate lol))
Chris had to wait for the girl to come and THEN he could go to his interview. He had to ensure her safe travel first. He just really, really hoped that she wouldn't make him late. -
Sophia stared out in awe. She couldn't even describe it. There were a bunch of buildings with lights saying open and people walking in and out of these buildings.
Soon they were in a place with a bunch of different buildings. We're these what houses looked like?
After about five minutes the big metal thing stopped. "This is the house you're staying at," the man said.
After a few moments of experimenting with buttons and handles she.found the one that opened the door.
As soon as she had stepped into the sidewalk the man sped away. He had taken her to the correct house, but he didn't care much.for what happened to her after.
She walked up to the nearest house, wondering what she should do. She didn't want to come in unannounced. She saw a little button next to the door and pressed it. She heard a little sort of ringing on the other side of the door. -
Chris opened the door and stared at Sophia for a moment, before opening the door wider so she could go through. "Uh, come in. Are you Sophia, Sophia Denyer?"
-
She nodded. She tried to cover up her code on her arm with her hand. She stepped over the threshold and looked around. It was so different from what she was used to. She didn't know what half the things in there were. "And your name is... Christmas?"
-
Chris laughed a little. "Yeah, that's me. Do you want to sit down or...can I get you anything?"
-
Sophia's eyes moved quickly around the room, trying to take everything in. When he asked her that question.she looked at the couch. Why was the chair so long and... strange looking? She slowly walked over to it and sat down. Her eyes widened and she tensed up as the cushions went down under her weight. She had been afraid she was going to fall. Then she realized that it wasn't going to give out.from under her. She felt the cushion. It was...what was the word... comfortable. She hadn't ever been comfortable before.
-
Chris checked the time and sighed. "I hate to leave like this, but I have an interview. Try not to get in too much trouble while I'm gone, okay? And uh, please don't touch anything."
