Adrian flashed her a white sort of lopsided grin then walked into the kitchen. He looked in the fridge, freezer, and cupboards, seeing what he had and what he could make with it. He pulled out a jar of kalamata olives, surprised he had those in his cupboard. The expiration data was still good so he put them on the counter.
"One question, do you like olives or not?" Adrian asked from the kitchen. -
"Olives are fine," Sade answered, and laid her head against the table.
-
"Alright," Adrian said. He took some chicken breasts out of the freezer and looked in the fridge for the rest of the ingredients for what he was making. He grabbed tomatoes, cucumbers, Italian dressing, and feta cheese and set them on the counter as well. He pulled out a frying pan and got to work.
Adrian turned on the stove and set the frying pan on top. He squirted some of the dressing in it and set two pieces of chicken in it. He started cutting up the vegetables, pausing every once in awhile to make sure the chicken wasn't burning and sometimes to add some water. -
“You have angel wings, but not enough power to get this done faster?” Sade teased Adrian. She admired him as she watched him cook. For some reason, he actually looked graceful. Sade figured Adrian would be scattering around the kitchen, but he was well put together.
-
"I told you I've never done magic," Adrian said. He put the cut up vegetables into a bowl, then put the cheese and olives in and squirted a bit of the dressing into the bowl. "Now we just have to wait for the chicken," he said. He put the bowl into the fridge then walked over to the stove. He slid the spatula underneath one piece and flipped it and did the same with the other one.
-
Sade sighed, laying her head against the table. She breathed in, and sniffled a bit. She didn’t understand why things had to be this way. She’d already been through so much, and this was the next thing life threw at her?
-
When the chicken looked like it might be done Adrian cut a little slit into the thickest part of each of them to make sure they were. A clearish juice gushed out of it. It was going to be nice and moist. He didn't see any pink, so it was done. He pulled two plates out and set one piece of chicken on each plate. Adrian went to the fridge and got the bowl. He put the plates on one arm and held the bowl in his other hand and walked to the table. He put the bowl down first, then the plate on his arm then the plate in his hand.

Sade looked up to Adrian and forced herself to smile. It was the polite thing to do, even though she didn’t feel so hungry anymore. She swallowed her spit down her throat, then wiped her eyes with her fingers.
-
Adrian looked up from setting the table at her. "Is something wrong?" he asked.
-
Sade closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them slowly. “It’s just,” she began to stutter. “I... I’m disconnecting from reality. Nothing seems real anymore. I don’t even know who you are. This could all be some lie I’m being fed. Some lie that I just choose to believe because I’m so lost with myself,” Sade’s voice cracked as her tears began to fall. “I don’t know what aim doing here and I don’t know... I’m so sorry.”
Sade covered her face, rushing out the door. Of course, she caused a scene. She didn’t lie though, it was true. She had no idea what was real and what wasn’t. -
Adrian stared after her, unsure of what to do. He didn't know if he should go after her or let her be for a little.
But he did realize what he had done wrong. It was too much for her in such a short amount of time. Demons, angels, magic, and the fate of the world on her shoulders. It was too much to process. She probably thought she was delusional, or something. -
Sade found herself sitting under a tree, her knees pulled to her head. She buried her face in hopes that it would muffle her cries.
-
Adrian decided to walk after her, not speedily, but not slowly.
A bit later he found her sitting under a tree in the snow crying her eyes out into her knees. He sat next to her with a sigh. "I'm sorry," he said quietly.
