Luka easily snatched the keys from the guard and walked back down to Tessa's cell. He fumbled for the right key before sticking it into the lock and turning it. He heard a click and the door creaked open.
-
Tessa walked quickly out of the cell. "Thank you," she said, truly grateful. She looked around making sure no one had heard the creaking door.
-
Luka nodded his head towards her, smiling, caught in the depths of her deep blue eyes, but was startled when he heard a sound coming from the guard’s room.
Luka cursed and began nudging Tessa down the hall. “Hurry!” he hissed. “If he sees you, he’ll-“ Luka broke off, not wanting to think about what could happen to Tessa if the guard saw her out. -
Tessa started running down the corridor doing her best to keep a light footing so that she wouldn't be heard. She looked behind her to see what Luka was doing, but she turned a corner and he was out of sight.
-
Luka stopped and quickly leaned against the hallway's stone walls. He examined his nails until the guard reached him.
"Prince Luka, sir," the guard said, dipping into a small bow. "I thought I heard something."
Luka assumed a typical 'royalty' demeanor and looked up at him with a bored expression. "Indeed." he said softly. He straightened up and turned to completely face him. "Well, there's nothing to worry about," he said. -
Luckily for Tessa the door that she and the guards had entered by wasn't locked. She pulled open the door and ran out, the cool night air enveloping her. She ran to the gate. Her freedom was almost at hand.
Except the gates were locked as they always are at night. -
The guard frowned, his intuition feeling that Luka was hiding something, but he nodded and stepped back. "Good night, Prince. I wish you well."
Luka nodded and turned away, walking calmly around the corner. Once he turned it, he broke into a run, breaking through the half open door and running out. The castle's lawns were deserted, and the only person that Luka could see was a distant shape standing at the gate. "Tessa." Luka whispered. -
Tessa looked up at the portcullis and set her hands on the metal. What was she going to do now? She didn't know. She hid herself between the edge of the wall and the gate so that she'd be less likely to be seen by any guards on duty.

Luka ran to Tessa, ducking into the shadows of the wall. "You can't get out that way," he hissed, grabbing her shoulder. "Come on. We can get out through the stables. There's a gate for the horses there."
-
Tessa nodded and followed him as they ran to the stables. She was truly grateful to Luka for helping her this much.
