Luka swallowed. "I know what losing loved ones is like. I lost my mother when I was a child, and my older brothers soon after. I know that no amount of apologies can heal the wound their passing created in you." He twisted his finger. "If you don't want to help me, that's fine. I understand." A hand over his wound, he began to stumble towards Mallow.
-
"I'll help you," Tessa said. Believe it or not, she was actually beginning to trust the noble. She helped him get onto his horse. "What's your name?" she asked, curious.
-
Turning around, he smiled softly. "Thanks. In truth, I don't think I could've made it home." He struggled to get onto the horse, even with Tessa's help. Once he was up, he answered. "I'm Luka. Son of King (??)."
What is the king's name?)) -
(Uhhhhh.....Renfield? I don't know, first name I came up with.)
Tessa's eyes widened. The Prince? She got down on her knees in respect. "I - I'm sorry, I didn't know," she said. -
Luka cringed. "Oh, please, Miss Tessa. I'm no more royalty than you are. Stand up." He smiled kindly. "Being the prince is awful, especially with people bowing to me left and right."
-
Tessa did as he said told her to. "I hope you'll be alright," she said truthfully. "I have to go."
-
Luka bit his lip. "Okay. Take care, Miss Tessa. He smiled kindly and pulled the reins on Mallow. "Goodbye." Mallow galloped away, with Luka staring behind.
-
Tessa waved a goodbye, then turned around and started speed walking home. She was scared. She was in the King's forest, and at any time she could be caught. She stared at the ground the entire time, thoughts rushing through her head. She could not believe that had just happened.
Suddenly she heard rustling, and two men emerged from the brush. Foresters.
"What you doing out here? This is the King's land, you know," one of them said.
"I was just on my way back," Tessa said as she stopped walking. "No harm has been done."
"You're trespassing," the other one said. "You know there's punishment for that."
They both grabbed her. Tessa screamed and squirmed, trying to get out of their grasp. Eventually, she did and she ran. She ran and she ran home. Her skirt would sometimes get tangled up around her legs, but luckily she had always been a fast runner, and the Foresters had heavy and bulky clothing.
She ran to her hut and closed the door. They might come looking for her. They might not. She didn't know. She leaned on the table, catching her breath. -
Luka clenched his fists in pain as he rode through the gate. Once he was through, he immediately collapsed and slid off his horse. Guards and soldiers surrounded him, desperate to save the prince.
-
Tessa took a drink of water. They'd be able to find her, she knew. Using tax papers. But that all depended on if they thought she was worth the trouble. Hopefully, she wasn't.
(They actually found tax papers for a Robin of Loxley. I can't remember if they've confirmed the theory or not on if that was Robin Hood or not. According to the stories Robin Hood was from Loxley) -
Whoa, that's actually really cool :0))
Luka woke up in his bed, his wounds bandaged and cleaned. He sat up and murmured "Tessa," under his breath. He gingerly touched his side and winced. He looked around, but his room was empty. -
(So yeah, if it is, they found Robin Hood!
Although how he turned up in a poem is beyond my reasoning (that's the first thing he showed up in was a poem. Well, it was actually a whatchamacallit that starts with a b, where it's like a story song with hundreds of verses and it told a story that was like half an hour long, or something. They'd do it in bars and taverns, and things like that so that people with nothing to do had something to pass the time))
Hopefully, she wasn't worth it, she repeated to herself. She probably wasn't. She hadn't committed multiple offenses, and many people trespassed without being caught, and they knew that.
Her thoughts brought her back to the prince. Luka, he had said his name was. She hadn't thought it ever possible for a noble to actually be cordial to a peasant. -
He shook the thought aside and pulled his blankets off. Standing up, he noticed that his father was sitting on a chair on the far side of the prince's quarters.
"My king!" he gasped, and knelt.
His father sniffed and picked up his goblet that was on a side table and lifted it to his lips. "So," he began. "My Foresters say they found a trespasser near where you were."
Luka frowned. "How did they know where I was?" He hoped to draw the conversation away from Tessa. He stood up.
"There's only one bear in the part of the forest you were hunting in." He set the goblet down and fixed his eyes on Luka. "And there were signs of a scuffle." -
But Tessa knew the king was very stingy about his forest. She guessed she'd have to wait and see.
Tessa wondered how Luka was doing, if he was alright, or if he was having trouble with his wound. She did wish she could see him again, but it probably wouldn't happen again. -
Luka bit his lip. "Okay..."
The king lifted up the goblet and took a sip again. "So. What were you doing with the girl?"
