Willa brushed out her hair and slipped on her hoodie, yawning as she did.
She walked out of her front door, waving to her older sister, who looked after her. "Bye, Song!" she called. Their late parents had had a strange love of music and had named her sister Harp Song Williams, and herself Orchestra Symphony Williams.
Willa shuddered inwardly at the name that her parents had given her, but then sighed. Names could always be changed, but her parents were gone forever. Car accident. They were less than a mile from home when they were t-boned by a speeding semi-truck. Both died very quickly and painlessly, but Willa and her sister were left alone. -
Anais sat patiently at her kitchen table. She tapped her long fingernails against the woods, in hope that Willa would show up. Friendships were never easy for Anais, and they were even more challenging when the friend was insanely attractive and lovable.
Anais sighed and bit her lip as the kettle began to whistle. She jolted upwards in shock, after being so caught up in her own daydreams.
Anais approached the stove and grabbed two matching mugs from the cupboard. They were both white porcelain, detailed with small flowers around the rim. -

Oh yeah, sorry XD))
Willa stepped onto Anais's front porch and took a deep breath, raising her fist to knock. She hesitated, then brought her knuckles down on the wood, making a hollow knocking sound. -
it’s okay! i was just checking. no need to apologize, love. ♡ )
After pouring the tea, there was a knocking at the door. Knock, knock. It was the perfect volume. It wasn’t annoying or too loud, but it wasn’t too gentle or too quiet. How could the sound of knocking be so perfect?
Anais snapped out of her trance and rushed to the door. She adjusted her posture and took a deep breath. She exhaled and opened the door slowly. Behind the door, was Willa.
“Welcome, welcome!” Anais shouted cheerfully. “Thank you so much for coming. Please, please come in,” she spoke a little too quickly. -
Willa smiled, her tan lips lifting slightly as she appreciated Anais's excitement. "Hi," she murmured, and stepped inside. "Uhm. Do you want me to take off my shoes?" she asked, gesturing to her clean checkered slip-ons.
-
Anais turned and faced the kitchen. She made sure the living room was nice and tidy. She wanted Willa to be as comfy and cozy as possible. “If you would,” Anais smiled kindly. She looked down to her bare feet as they grazed the hardwood floor.
Anais never wore shoes in the house unless she was preparing to go outside. She grabbed the two mugs of tea and brought them over to the coffee table in front of the sofa. Anais's parents would be gone for the next few days, and she still felt guilt for avoiding asking permission- for Willa to come over, of course. She wasn’t sure whether to tell them or keep it a secret. Anais never liked to lie, and usually ended up confessing anyways. -
Willa nodded and bent down to take off her shoes. She set them neatly side by side next to the door and swallowed. Anais's home was so tidy and cozy. Willa loved the feeling it gave her, and she basked in it as long as she could before stepping over to the sofa and sitting down gently on it.
She reached over and picked up a warm mug of tea, sipping it contentedly. "Thanks for inviting me," she said, smiling. -
Anais struggled to speak out loud this time. “It’s a p-pleasure,” she managed to stutter. Anais bit her bottom lip nervously. Her stutter. She always hated it, even if it had gotten much better over the years.
Usually, Anais didn’t notice she was stuttering unless she was concentrating too hard on her words.
With a flick of her tongue, Anais offered a kind smile and said, “It’s really my pleasure.” She reached for the handle of her coffee mug, then realized how shaky her hands were. Her eyes widened as her tea spilled onto her lap, her feet, and in the floor. It was mortifying. -
-
Willa’s smile wavered and her gaze fell to the tea on the floor. She blinked her eyes, concerned, and leaped up from the sofa. “I’ve got it!” she said quickly, and ran to the kitchen for paper towels before the tea soaked into the carpet.
-
Anais lowered her head in embarrassment. Of course something like this had to happen. She attempted to hide her petrification with nervous laughter. “Ahaha, clumsy me,” she rasped.
Though she was on the verge of tears, Anais felt very comforted when Willa offered her help. -
Willa returned with a bundle of paper towels. She tore off a sheet and began rubbing violently at the carpet, soaking up the water. She wiped her forehead and continued scrubbing.
