Ander nodded at Crypta's words and climbed back down the ladder. "Can you hold on to my back?" Ander suggested.

"I can try," Kenna said with a nod. She reached away from the wall, precariously standing, and grabbed Ander's back.

Ander climbed the ladder carefully, making sure that he didn't make any sudden movements and throw Kenna off. Crypta helped them up once they reached the top, looking like a different and much sadder person.

Kenna, not knowing where her cane was, kept much of her weight on Ander when they reached the top. "I'm so sorry," she said softly. "This is what I was talking about before, I'm more trouble than I'm worth. Now Lilac's dead."

"You are not more trouble than you're worth. Lilac understood and if she were here, she'd probably say something like "Scoot your sorry rears along and stop crying about me," Ander said, smiling in spite of himself. He could practically hear her voice saying those words.

Kenna gave a choked out laugh and wiped the tears from her eyes. "Ow," she said again, holding her rib a second time. Apparently laughing hurt it too.

Ander touched her rib gently. It seemed to be broken. "Does it hurt?" he asked before sighing. "I'm such an idiot. Of course it hurts."

Kenna nodded. "He kicked it, I wasn't sure if it was just bruised or broken."

"I think it's probably broken," Ander said with a frown. "Don't worry, it'll heal. It just needs some time."

"Thanks," Kenna said. She looked up from where Ander had been touching her rib and sucked in a breath when she saw Lilac's body a little ways away.

Ander looked up to see what she was staring at and felt a wave of emotions run through him all over again. He pushed them out of his mind. "I guess it's time."

Despite Ander's encouraging words Kenna still felt a small pang of guilt. Unfortunately she couldn't think of anything she could have possible done to stop it, especially considering she had been unconscious at the time.

Robo sniffed around the forest floor and began to dig. The dirt was soft and cushiony, giving way for his paws. Ander carried Lilac over to the spot, watching the mechanical dog dig a wide enough hole for a grave.

The tears were back. Kenna hadn't known Lilac for very long, but she was still extremely pained by losing her. For a little bit of time, it had almost felt like she had a sister.

Crypta was absolutely crushed. Never, in her whole life, had she ever experienced the death of someone she cared about. What ifs were running through her head. What if Proto had never attacked them? What if Iris had been on their side? What if Lilac had won? Robo backed up giving a nod of approval.
Ander set her down in the grave. He felt empty and hollow. He couldn't really accept it. The fact that she was really gone. She still seemed so alive, like she would pop up at any moment and make some witty remark.
