Crypta touched Kenna's arm, starting to cry. "It isn't! It must have been that clone, Kenna. Don't believe a word he said!"

"It wasn't the clone," Kenna said quietly, flinching at Crypta's touch. She looked up fearfully at Ander. She wished the wall could surround her, protect her. That way he wouldn't be able to hit and bruise her. She wouldn't be able to hear the awful things he'd say.

Ander's heart seemed to go still when she looked at him. She looked afraid, as if he would strike her at any moment. That look tore him apart.
"It was," Crypta said firmly. "Kenna, we have to GO." -
"He said something from around the time we first met," Kenna said quietly. It was as if she was trying to persuade herself that Crypta and Ander weren't there to save her, just hurt her.
"Let's go down there," Kieran said, "And kill the lot of them." -
"Maybe he picked it up from the tablet," Ander said, his voice desperate. "Please, trust us. Trust me."
Iris closed her eyes, as if wincing. Lilac flashed before her eyes, like a flipbook up until her death. "Do you have a gun?" she asked. -
The tablet...she had forgotten about that. "I - I don't know..." she said.
Kieran nodded and opened his backpack, revealing something that resembled a small armory. "Pick your poison," he said as he picked up a gun. -
Iris slid a few paralyzing ones in the slot, trying to steady her breath. Lords of the Garden, forgive me. She backed up and loaded the gun.
Ander heard fragments of voices from the other room. "Kenna, we have to go now. Do you trust me?" -
Kieran loaded his very lethal gun and went downstairs "I don't believe you have clearance to be in here," he said, looking down the long row of cells to where Ander and Crypta were trying to persuade Kenna.
Kenna heard Ander's voice, but he hadn't opened his mouth. She looked around, eyes wide, completely confused. -
Ander whipped around, his eyes narrowed. "You."
Iris's heart was pounding. She had to make a choice now. Kieran or Lilac. Lilac or Kieran. Her head hurt. She just wanted it to be over. She saw Crypta's wide pleading eyes and Ander's hostile expression. In that moment, she made her choice. -
Kenna saw the pure fury in Ander's eyes and realized that everything he had been saying was true. "It is you, isn't it," she said with a tone of this realization in her voice.
"Yes, me," Kieran said. "Now if you'll please stop trying to rescue my assignment, I have a job to do." -
Ander smiled briefly at Kenna. "Of course it's me. I'd never hurt you. I love you," he said softly. He turned back to Kieran, his expression changing completely. "I let you live once. If you don't put that gun down, it won't happen again."
Iris's breathing became shallow. She couldn't look Crypta in the eye. She hated Ander for turning her sister evil. He hated Kenna for supporting him and she hated their sappy romance. But Crypta was different. She had offered her pie, treated her kindly. A few scraps of bacon to her ally didn't repay for that.
"Don't kill that one, Kieran," she whispered. -
Kenna was comforted by Ander's smile. Then she remembered the look he had given her just minutes ago. She had hurt him then.
Kieran looked at Iris for a moment, then slowly nodded. He shot at the ground right in front of Ander. A warning. "Last chance, then I kill you." -
"I'm not going anywhere," Ander said quietly, a calm expression on his face. He had accepted his fate. Crypta could barely stand to look at him.
If it hadn't been for Robo, Ander would have died at that very moment. He made a split second decision and jumped at Kieran from the sidelines, his jaws wide open, revealing a set of ragged metal teeth. Toxins couldn't hurt him. -
Kieran tried to duck, but he only ended up falling on his back. He dropped his gun, having to use both hands to keep the dog from biting off his face.

Robo picked the gun up in his mouth, crunching it to bits and fighting against Kieran's hands savagely. Iris shot at him but the bullet bounced off and hit her in the leg.
