Phen looked around

Ardis heard a quiet skittering noise up ahead and scooped Flix up. The skittering noise continued, louder this time.

Phen hissed at the darkness, lighting up his wings

Suddenly, a huge pair of pincers came into view, so big they could easily snip a person in half, which was its clear intention. It lunged at them.

Phen stumbled back and blasted fire at the thing

The pincers still snapped ominous, as the beast came forward.

Phen roared at the thing and blasted fire at it again

A pair of large beady eyes blinked at them, wondering whether to give up his meals or not. Ardis had her sword drawn, and Flix was by her heels, hissing.
The beast lunged out, heading for Flix. -
Phen lunged at it and slammed his talloned feet into its eyes

It screeched and backed up, just as Ardis cleanly cut off one of its pincers. Now blinded, the creature scuttled into a large crevice.

Phen glared as it retreated

Ardis picked Flix up, avoiding a large puddle of green goo which had come from the beast. "Ew. What was that?"

Phen poked at it with his tail

Ardis flipped through her guidebook. "A marnthropede. Resistant to fire and spits out acidic goo."

Phen whipped his tail back with a hiss of pain "lovely
