Back at the herd, Andronesia decided to talk to one of the mares. The one she had in mind was an old friend of her mother, named Moonlight. -
"Moonlight?" she asked.
"Yes?"
"Would it be bad if someone in the herd were to be friends with someone from the Southern Herd?"
"Oh yes, it would be terrible," Moonlight said. "Why?"
Andronesia hesitated. "Why are there two herds any way? Why can't we just join?"
"It's too complicated," Moonlight said. "You see, the herds used to be one, but when there were arguments, it split." -
"Did anyone have twins when that happened?"
Andronesia asked, getting a little braver. -
Moonlight looked at her suspiciously. "Why are you asking so many questions?" she demanded.

Jewel got out of the river and shook the water off her coat
