(Oh my bad)
-
Eztli nodded and began to write what was on the board, she did not understand the math at all.
-
Mrs Gadillo started to explain what was on the board "we will be solving two step equations" she had a thick Colombian accent "how do we find the value of X? First we must have X on one side. Since our equation is 2x-3=3x+1 we need to subtract Either 2x or 3x from both sides...." she pointed to the board "like so"
-
Eztli stared at her trying to understand, her thoughts were literally, 'What?'.
-
"We will subtract 2x from both sides. As shown on the board we get -3=1x+1. Now we must get x alone by subtracting 1 on both sides. Doing this gives us -4=1x. Since 1x means X then the answer is X=-4. Just to make sure plug in -4 for X and solve both sides -11=-11. Okay class any questions?" Mrs. Gadillo took a sip of water to clear her throat.
Alby started confused at what she just heard -
(Goodnight)
-
Eztli raised her hand, she had about a million questions and only one word to say.
-
"Yes Eztli" Mrs Gadillo said
-
Eztli cleared her throat and said, "What?" because that was all she could think to say.
-
"I'm sorry did I confuse you?" she asked thinking she did explain it quite fast "two step equations have variables, known as X, on both side we go through a series of steps to get X by its self on one side and a true number on the other."
-
Eztli was still just as confused and decided to ask her main question, "What is variable?" she was sure people would laugh at her or maybe just stare, but she didn't care, if she wanted to know something, she would learn it no matter what people think.
-
Can I just jump in with my character in a study hall rn?)
-
(Yes)
-
"A variable is a quantity that may change within the context of a mathematical problem or experiment. Meaning depending on the equation the number will vary. Typically, we use a single letter to represent a variable. The letters x, y, and z are common generic symbols used for variables." Mrs Gadillo explained
-
"Okay thanks, now, what are those negative numbers for? What do they mean?" Eztli was trying to figure it out, but she just wasn't sure, she knew the other kids probably thought she was stupid, but it wasn't her fault she hasn't been to school after first grade.
