"What's wrong?" Hannah asked through the stall.

Gabrielle stiffened and wiped her face, walking out with a smile, "Nothing, I'm fine."

"No you're clearly not." Hermione sighed. "Please tell us what's wrong!" Hannah pleaded.

"Nothing is wrong!" Gabrielle snapped, her eyes narrowing slightly.

"Are you sure?" Hannah asked, concerned.

Gabrielle smiled ruefully, "I was rather stupid to think I was being accepted. I guess I'm still a Slytherin at heart."

Hannah had no idea how to respond... "I have an idea!" Hermione decided. She brought Gabrielle to Dumbledore and asked if they could talk to the Sorting Hat. "We want to know why Gabrielle was put in Gryffindor." Hermione explained.

Gabrielle looked up at Dumbledore, a broken look in her eyes. She needed to know... She just had to...

Dumberdore smiled. "Of course!" Dumbledore cheered, grabbing the hat. "Hello again you two! I know what you want to know. Why I made my decision. A Slytherin is not simply a person with a rude spirit. A Slytherin is someone who believes they're the best wizard because they're pure blood. You being a Muggle who wanted to be in Slytherin, that bold spirit is what put you in Gryffindor." The hat explained.

Gabrielle looked down, "But you knew why I wanted to be in Slytherin and you mocked me..."

"Well... I found it amusing. But you're not the oddest sorting I had this year." The sorting hat laughed.

Gabrielle sighed and nodded, though she still didn't quite understand. She looked to the other girls, just wanting to leave.

"The sorting hat is actually pretty rude. So don't take too much offense to what he says. He might just be testing you to see where your spirit truly lies or some other intelligent junk." Hannah told her friend.

Gabrielle blinked and sighed, her brokenness returning to her eyes, "I wish I knew where it was so I can beat it a bit..."
