(Oh, don't worry about it! I slim down on sentences when I'm sleepy too. xP)
He flinched at her response, scared that he had offended her. He sat on the sand, trying to comprehend what exactly was going on. There wasn't anything to explain what was going on here. Kieran was totally lost. "I'm very sorry. That was rude of me." He tugged at his scarf, staring at her. "What.. Um.. Brings you here?" -
snowstorm Newbie"i'm studying humans." she replied, just slightly calmer. she splashed him with her fins. and that, my friend, is part one of my payback for interrupting me. and, technically, i was also looking for some limpets and crabs." she responded quietly.
-
"Studying? We aren't anything special," Kieran said, looking almost embarrassed. "Your kind.. I mean, I've heard tails of old sailors seeing people like you, but I've never seen one myself. Thought they were bluffing--" She splashed him with water, and he freaked, turning so it would miss his camera. "I-I didn't mean to! You could have ignored me, anyway..."
-
Pearbug Newbie"Yet I'm scared of that-ing!- you call a camera. To you humans, its just a simple flash and it fades, but I can blinvdd merfolk!"
-
Kieran blinked at her, and then smiled down at the camera. He picked it up, stroking it. "I can turn off the flash..." He held it up, turning its focus to a bird nearby. With a flick of a switch, and a press on a button, he had taken a picture without the flash on. He looked to her. "There's no need to be scared of it. It's a very pretty object."
-
Pearbug Newbie" dad told me that most people use flash for better images. That means it can blind us." She huffed, crossing her gray arms.
(She has gray skin, milky white eyes, fins on her back, sides of her tail, for her ears, and the top of her head. Just wanted to point it out XP) -
(Gotcha)
The man shrugged, setting his camera down. It was starting to get a little cooler, he thought, as the breeze began to shift closer to the sandy floor. "It's true, a lot of people do use flash. But if it'll hurt you, I'll be sure to not take pictures with flash." Kieran paused, pursing his lips. "Though... I might not see you again, huh?" -
Pearbug NewbieOmi pondered a bit. "How about we both come back tomorrow if we bring a valuable trinket to each other? I know a sunken ship full of treasure in-what do you call it? Oh, the marina trench!" She offered. She was starting to like this human.
-
He frowned, picking at a loose strand of fabric on his jacket. He wasn't sure if meeting up with a mermaid was wise. Not to mention, it was possible that she wasn't just a mermaid at all. He felt uneasy near her, even though she was being friendly. However, he nodded, letting the feeling go away. "Fine," Kieran said. "I doubt I can offer something you'll like, but I'll try to find something." Pushing himself up off the sand, he looked to the sky, realizing it was starting to get darker. He looked back to her. "My name is Kieran. What is yours?"
-
Pearbug Newbie"Omi." She responded with a grin, revealing extremely sharp fangs, before diving into the murky dephs.

The next morning, she had kept true to her word. She had brought a thick gold necklace laid with large diamondss and rubies. -
Kieran had spent the night thinking about what to bring her. He wanted to give her something she could keep, something that wouldn't get destroyed under water. After pondering, he decided to bring a hair pin that his grandmother had passed down to his mother, and then to him, seeing as how he was an only child. He thought the colors would compliment Omi's skin tone. When he arrived back at the rock, he smiled, seeing her in plain sight. "Hi," he called out to her. This time, he had left his camera at home.
-
Pearbug NewbieShe tossed him the necklace and held out her hand for the hairpin, which she had already eyed.
-
Kieran handed her the hairpin, barely catching the necklace. "You could have broken it!" He warned her, clutching it. It wasn't something he would wear himself, but he thought it was very pretty. "What was it like, going underwater and getting this? Was it in a treasure chest? Or in a drawer in a ship room?"
-
Snowd in Newbie"It was on the captains dead bride." She replied with a grin.
-
Kieran slowly set the necklace down, staring at it. For some reason, touching something that had held value like that to a dead bugged him. "What a lovely thing to bring."
