Franklin walked, his nose in one of his journals. He stared at the words, though they seemed to blurr. His face was way too warm when he thought of Gray.
-
(Hehe I think you're the only one who calls me queen)
Gray kept her senses alert but distanced herself from the world. "Are you okay?" She finally asked Frank, noticing his stiffness. -
Oh wow XD)
"Hmm?" Franklin looked up from his book and at Gray, his face as red as blood. He nodded "Why?" -
"You seem a bit red," She commented truthfully. She took a step closer, examining his face.
-
"I told you, it's something medical" Franklin lied. He hated lying, but at least his feet weren't tired from walking so long.
-
Gray could easily tell he was lying, but she let it pass. "Okay. What should our strategy be?" She asked. "We have a bit of food to last a few days, but how about when that runs out?" She said, changing the subject.
-
"Don't worry. I can tell you which berries are okay, and which nay" He said, closing his journal. He put it in the backpack Gray was carrying, and tried not to talk to much.
-
Gray zipped up the back back when he was done, their fingers touching for a second, but she ignored it. "We have to find shelter, it might get dark soon."
-
Franklin tripped, landing face-first into the ground. He went on his knees, brushing himself off. He then looked at the ground, which was starting to crack fast.
-
Gray took one look at the ground and knew something was wrong. The ground seemed too thick to just crack. Even so, she pulled Frank back up quickly and tried to back away, but the ground was cracking under their feet.
-
Franklin pushed Gray as the ground started falling, and then he grabbed onto a ledge of unstable ground. "Stay back, Gray!" Franklin said as the ledge was crumbling under his fingers. Time seemed to stand still. Franklin could notice the birds singing their sweet song. The cool wind blowing gently against his. The bright sun, which was not that hot.
-
Gray knew this defied all logic, everything she was ever taught. She felt a feeling she hasn't felt in years creep into her. Panic. She kept it in check and tried to think rationally. "No!" Gray screamed and held on to Frank. If they were going down, they were going down together. The ground started crumbling and she felt herself start to sink.
-
Franklin used his free hand to pry off Gray's hand, and he felt himself fall, but seeing Gray jump in for him. He held Gray close, and put himself on bottom to protect Gray.
-
Gray had no idea what was happening,so she closed her eyes and started counting backwards from ten repeatedly. It was supposed to be a calming exercise but she found herself raising her voice and still a bit panicky. She and Frank hit the side of the cracks and bumped into each other a lot but she didn't care as long as something was soft at the bottom.
-
Pain shot through Franklin's body as he hit the ground, smooth stone. He let go of Gray, who was perfectly fine. Franklin got up, and looked at his leg. It must've scraped something, as it was bleeding.
