Ivyheart purred, her heart leaping to the sky, climbing the clouds like the ivy she was named for.
-
Snowwillow sighed in contentment as Ivyheart's nest was finished.
-
Ivyheart went to the furthest part of the territory and yowled her emotions to the sky.
Duskstar was supervising the sunhigh patrol. Mousepaw refused to go out, saying he'd done enough work already.
Redclaw groaned. His apprentice (Mousepaw) had done barely anything. "Mousepaw, what exactly do you call work?"
"Gathering moss, making nests for fussy queens!" Mousepaw quipped. Then he added vehemently, "StarClan curse Hazelpaw!"
Redclaw blinked, confused. "There aren't any queens that need nests."
Mousepaw growled. "Oh, yes there are. There's one. Haven't you heard? Great StarClan, I'd expect you to be the first to know. If you're so clever, can't you even tell a simple thing?"
"Like what?" When Mousepaw opened his mouth to reply, Redclaw went on, "No, I don't need to know. All I need to know is that you are on the patrol. Come."
Finally the patrol left, Redclaw briskly marching a reluctant Mousepaw on. The apprentice was being hushed as he loudly complained, "You do need to know!"
Duskstar breathed a sigh of relief. -
Snowwwillow collected bird feathers to put around Ivyheart's nest at the fresh-kill pile. Dustkit and Rosekit were tumbling with their littermates, so she had SOME time. She rimed Ivyheart's moss-nest with fuzzy, soft feathers. She laid in it to test it out, and went ack to her nest. Her kits came back to her, and Rosekit fell asleep.
-
A patrol was coming.
Ivyheart climbed a tree and watched the patrol passing by. After they had gone, she came down and began to sneak after them.
Suddenly, claws grabbed her from behind and pulled her across the border. She screamed out before they stuffed leaf mulch her in her mouth to silence her. Yuck! She was dragged to a Clan's camp, ShadowClan, and put in a small den off to the side of it. It had been woven with absolutely no bother, the only care put in was making sure she could not escape. Two stones leaned together, and the other wall was the woven one. Thorns poked out at her, grazing her flanks and her face when she was thrust in. "Snakestar will see you when he gets back," growled one of her captors. -
Snowwillow wondered where her sister went. "Have you seen her?" she asked many cats. But only two gave her an answer: "She went for a walk near the border." Snowwillow asked, "Redclaw, I think Ivyheart was taken. Her sent drops there- we need to find her."
-
Redclaw's eyes widened. "Taken!" he echoed. "I'm going right away." he decided. Nobody would take her away, not ever. "Not over my dead body," he vowed.
Duskstar blocked the red-brown tom's way. "No. I'll send a patrol."
Ivyheart spat leaf mulch and mud. "Take me back! You can't keep me here!"
"Oh, no. You're not going home till your Clan agrees to pay ransom."
"And what is my random?!" she challenged. "It's the next born-" the cat who had tried to reply was cut off by the first cat. "That is for Snakestar to tell."
At last, the ShadowClan leader returned. Ivyheart, thorns tangled in her fur, spitting and angry, was dragged before him.
"You may go back," he told her, "when your Clan pays me my price."
Ivyheart was ready with her angry question. "And just what price would that be?"
His cool eyes infuriated her. It was as if she'd chosen to come across the border!
"My price..." Snakestar meowed. "The next litter of kits born in your Clan, and the queen who bears them, to be my mate."
"Not the queens we have now?" Ivyheart checked, horrified.
"No, of course not. Their kits know their Clanmates." Snakestar snapped. "You're staying here until I am given the kits and their mother." -
Snowwillow rolled her eyes and snuck off, making sure Duskstar didn't know. She looked into the camp.
-
Ivyheart's hackles rose. "Never!" she snarled.
"Temper, temper." the leader's smooth voice slithered like his namesake. More like a slug, leaving behind a trail of slime.
Quick as a flash, his paw slammed into her side. She half staggered, half skidded, sideways and struggled to regain her breath. She risked a glance and saw the blood clumping her fur together. "How dare you!" -
(May I join?)
-
(I think so)
-
Yeah... Qnd Ivystar, you have FULL permission to invite peeps!!)
Snow willow rolled her eyes and snuck into the camp. She over heard the conversation and jumped in. "I'll do it," Snowwillow meowed, eyes seceretly tearing up. "Just let my sister go!" -
"No." The word dropped like a stone. "I will die before that happens."
This time, it was Ivyheart's claws. It wasn't her blood that spurted onto the ground. The ShadowClan leader's dying scream ripped from his throat.
One of the ShadowClan warriors dipped her head to Ivyheart and Snowwillow. "Thank you," she meowed, "we needed that one gone. I'd normally never admit it, but my Clan was in ruins. Now that my brother has died, we can fix this."
"He was your brother!?" Ivyheart exclaimed. "I'm sorry."
"No. I would have done it myself." -
Snowwillow stared at her sister. "Thanks, sister. I probably would have died from him, to!"
-
"You're welcome. That cat didn't deserve to live." She pointed towards home. "Let's get out of here."
