  Clara grabbed Shade's hands. "But tell me the truth. Look at everything in your life. Are you happy?" It was a hard question to ask.

  Clara also sighed. "It's getting late. My mom will worry." She went to grab her sandals, then stopped. "Your father," She said, not turning back. "It's him?"

  Clara turned. "Do you want to stay at my house tonight? We could stay up all night."

  Clara threw her arms around Shade. "We'll start tomorrow." She ran back up the cement steps, and into the kitchen door.

  Clara watched Shade walk away. She frowned, then went up to take a bath. "Twenty nine more days..." She sighed.
