"Only sometimes. You just need to know where to work." Matty told him then his cheeks lit up at the suggestion. As tempting an offer, he shook his head slowly. "Don't worry about it right now, Charlie. I can wait for your attention once you've healed. And I'll give you a little bit each week. What if I told you I would pay you to not be a prostitute, to get a normal job? Would you do it?"
-
"I don't like people. And I don't do computers. Or math. So, yeah, it does pay well, as far as my options go," The boy shook his head at the declined offer, and went silent at the last bit, finally shaking his head. "No. I'm fine as I am."
-
"And what about the future? Will you be able to break away from this lifestyle when your special someone comes along? Or will you give up happiness for easy money?" Matty asked, his face never looking more serious at the thought.
-
"I don't know. But, until I can get out of this town, it's what I'll do. It's not up to you," He snapped, narrowing his eyes, hostile all of a sudden.
-
Matty's hands tightened on the wheel and he began to breathe deeply. "My apologies.. I don't know what it feels like to live the way you have, but I do know that your decisions can and will come back on you. But whatever. It's clear you're in your own mindset."
-
"..Then I'll deal with it then. It's what I'm doing now, until I can get out of the house," He repeated, slowly dropping the anger out of his voice. Charlie sighed, running a hand through his bangs. "Look, I'm sorry. But I don't have any other options."
-
"There's always an option. Most others are just extremely difficult to accomplish. Anyway, we're here. Let's get some food." He found a place to park as close as possible to the entrance of the pizza place and got out.
-
Charlie was happy to drop the topic, and got out, following Matty into the building. It was cozily warm, and there weren't a lot of people, so Charlie instantly felt like they had made a good choice.
-
Matty smiled at him. "I'll take it you wanna stay here awhile. So let's go make an order and sit somewhere." He suggested, taking Charlie's hand.
-
"Oh, yessss," He hummed, rocking on his heels. "I'll just take pepperoni."
-
"You want bread sticks or a dessert or anything with it?" Matty asked as he looked up at the menu for sizes and prices.
-
"Ahh, perhaps breads ticks with that marinara sauce?" Charlie hummed softly, leaning his back against the wall. It was covered with one of those red cushion things, and it felt nice.
-
"I think I want some garlic, too." Matty smiled at the boy and went up to the counter to make their order, getting a couple of medium-sized drinks in case Charlie wanted something. He returned to his 'date' with a slip of paper, leading him to find a place to sit while they waited. "Come on, Charlie. Or I'll give you a bad grade, then you'll have to do extra credit."
-
*sticksssss
The raven followed Matty, humming at the mention of a bad grade. "Aw, don't do that.. We've already talked about me getting extra credit," He winked, settling down into a booth. His ribs were hurting again, but he ignored them, focusing on the smells of food. -
"Yeah, I know. But I'll give you even more extra credit." He smiled at the younger, leaning on his arm. "So, Charlie, will you tell me some things about yourself? You don't seem like a mean or bad kid, why do those little s---s pick at you so much?" He asked, his eyes gleaming with sympathy.
