Alex's cool eyes shifted onto EJ as she wiggles around in her chair. He had a look in his eyes but didn't press her for information as another girl stood.
She looked about mid thirties with pale brown hair and caring hazel eyes. She had a slight wheeze when she talked and a raspy voice from years of being a smoker. "Hi, my name is Frankie. But people around here call me Momma Frank." She laughed lightly and looked down at her pale, scarred hands. "I was an alcholic, and I smoked a lot of weed. It was fun for awhile.. Until I noticed how my kids hated me and my husband was a dead beat like me." She shook her head and rubbed her face. "I've been sober from both for amost a year." -
Through the confession, the only part she really listened to was the name. She wasn't an addict- that was just a joke. She smoked weed for fun and had gotten caught, that was all. She'd never end up like these people, who couldn't control it. Like her jacket said, she was friendly, not reliant on the substance. She suddenly realized how bored she was going to be here.
-
Alex checked the time and stood up before anyone else could. "Alright that's it for today in this class. I'll see you either later on today or Wednesday when we have this again." Everyone got up and started to shuffle out. "Miss Jamieson." He used her last name and frowned. "A word?"
-
She was rather surprised at how the "class" went. Upon hearing her last name, she rolled her eyes but nodded and stayed in her seat.
-
"I believe we have a private session later correct? Do you need to know where my office is?" He asked and tilted his head to the side. He looked better after having a good nights sleep.
-
Keeping up the blank stare, she shrugged. "I don't really know what's going on. I was given this" She held up the paper given to her the night before "and that's all."
-
He scanned it and nodded. "We weren't expecting someone so late." He checked his schedule and then checked hers. "Come on I have free time and I'll show you around."
-
She hesitated a second before nodding and getting up to follow him. She was still wary of the man, but figured there wasn't too much that could go wrong.
-
"So you've saw the downstairs, there's an exercise room right down the hall." He pointed and lead her down there. "There's also a little movie room where they just come and hang out." He showed her that and then lead her up the steps. "This is where my office is and living quarters."
-
She looked around, starting to get interested. She added on to her mental map of the place. "Living quarters?" She made a confused face. "...you left last night.."
-
"For you guys. I live in the town not far from here with my dog." He said happily and pointed to his office. "I can show you outside if you would like. There's a green house out there.. My favorite spot."
-
A subtle smile spread across her lips before she could stop it. His excitement about his dog and the fact that he had a favorite of something made him seem less like a nurse and more like a person. "Sure," she responded.
-
He walked outside and smelled the damp, after rain smell. "Come on." He walked on the side walk and lead her into a small green house filled with beautiful green plants and blooming flowers. He started to check each one.
-
Oh. Hey, how've you been doing lately?)
She had followed behind him on the sidewalk out of shyness, but all that washed away when they entered the greenhouse. She was used to the type of building because of her business of selling, but not being overly obsessed with weed, she had gotten rid of a few plants to make room for the flowers that she seemed to have a growing addiction to. They were everywhere here, and she suddenly felt right at home. She walked up to a flower similar to one that she used to have, and couldn't stop the smile that broke out on her face. -
Tired. You?)
Alex set to work on watering his plants and making sure everything was in order. He looked up to see the smile on her face. "You like plants?" He asked with small smile. "And not the kind that you smoke." He mused and put the watering can down and rolled his sleeves up.
