You don't have to be the same gender as the canon story. Alice can be a guy if you want.
My characters, The Mad Hatter and The Flower are going to be gender swapped for sure. -

"Alice.. You're going the wrong way," Taylor protested, his voice almost shrill like a girl's. Allister glared at him, grumbling, "It's Allister, bunny rabbit, not Alice. I'm not a girl." "Perhaps you are," the black rabbit mused with delight. "Go to hell."
The two had bickered all the way down the rabbit hole. They had bickered over who knew the best way to get into Wonderland. Now the two were fighting over who knew the way to meet the Hatter and his troupe. -
The Hatter sat at his table, pouring tea silently. Florina sat to his right, staring at the holes in his cup and counting them.
"23." The Hatter said, suddenly.
"Eh?" Florina asked, glancing over.
"23 holes. Your cup has 23." He responded, not looking over, concentrating on pouring the tea.
"Ah." Florina sighed, tossing it to the ground and grabbing a holeless one. -
Dormouse sat at the table in boredom as she swirled around her cup of tea slowly. She was really bored to put it that way. Her tail flicked around slowly. "Hatter, I'm bored." She looked at him out of the corner of her eye.

"You haven't been here for a while.. I'm the one that knows the way, Alice," Taylor puffed out his chest, pointing down a road. "We're supposed to go that way." "Again, it's Allister, and it's that way, where the dead trees are." Allister grumbled, gesturing to the opposite path. "..'Alice' insists that we go that way." "If you wish to get lost, then that is the way we will go, Alice." The two finally shut up and walked down the path together.

"Hmmm...why don't you go find Alice, then?" He replied, a knowing look in his eyes as he smiles, pouring Florina some tea.
Florina perked up "Allister is here?" He asked, adjusting her dress and fixing his hair self-consciously.
