Saffron cursed herself for screaming, and she also cursed herself for being the damsel in distress. She never liked being the one to be saved, and she'd like to save someone for a change, but knew she wasn't strong enough to do it. So she sat there and waited for things to blow over. She'd either be dead or scared for life by the end of the night.
With caution, Kyle backed to Victoria and bent over her. "We should leave," he said quietly, making sure Dean wouldn't hear him. "We'll get them later when they aren't expecting it. We'll have better chances of winning then, and then we can do whatever you want for revenge." -
Dean stood, towering over them and where his wings once were they seemed to itch all the sudden. He suddenly craved that he had them back.. Narrowing his eyes he crossed his arms over his chest and waited.
Vivian used Kyle for support as she pulled herself to her feet. "Agreed." She said quietly, her breath warm on the man's ear. Looking at Dean she let a sneer cross her lips. "Funny how you're the one trying to do good and yet we're the ones with our wings still." As if to prove her point elegant smokey grey wings shot from her back and curled around her frame. "Come on guys.." She took Kyle's hand in hers and lead them out the door.
Once they were gone pain and confusion filled Dean's face. "They're gone." He said quietly over his shoulder at Saffron. -
Quickly, Saffron rushed across the dark room and to Dean, her hands gripping onto his shirt. "What the hell was that?" she questioned, fear obviously lacing her voice. Her hands were shaking as she looked at the door, which was broken down, just in case they were still there. "A-Are you alright?" She then questioned, looking back at him and seeing the painful and confused look on his face.
-
"Shh.." He said quietly and ran a careful hand over her hair as if he was scared she might break. "I'll explain later." He pulled away from her and set to cleaning up his house. Dean swept up the broken vase and set the broken door in place checking out the hinges. The knife was in his belt loop, the glistening metl shinning under the light.
-
A few tears managed to escape from Saffron's eyes but she quickly wiped them away. As Dean was cleaning everything up she noticed two things; the knife in his belt loop, and the blueish bruise forming on his face. Dean said he would explain everything later, so she decided to not ask about the odd knife in his belt and she walked to the fridge and rummaged through it. After a while she found some ice and she gathered up some of it and put it in a small towel. She walked over to Dean and she held out her makeshift ice pack. "Here," she said in a small voice. "For your face."
-
Dean looked down at her and lightly cupped her hand with his and pressed her hand to his cheek. He winced slightly and closed his eyes. "Thank you." He said softly and held her hand like that. "I'm so sorry for getting you into my mess." He opened his eyes and looked down at her. They were the color of fresh green grass in the spring.
-
Dean's hand was warm over Saffron's as they both held the homemade icepack over his face. For a few moments she got lost in the amazing green color of his eyes but she was able to pull herself out of his eyes. "I was in a mess before, I don't see what makes this any different," she said, but deep inside she had a feeling that the mess she was in was much bigger than the one she was in before.
-
Dean blinked and looked away from her and pulled away leaving the ice in her hands. "This is a lot.. Go sit on the couch and I'll make us some hot tea." He walked over to the stove and started to heat up water.
He was frustrated and irritated but also confused in his head. Now to tell her all this was going to be a mess. -
Saffron sighed and looked down at the ice in her hands. She wanted to give the ice back to him, but knew that he'd just tell her to sit down while he made tea. A sigh escaped her lips and she sat down on the couch, looking down at the icepack.
An odd thought crossed her mind and she suddenly wished Dean's cat was on her lap. She wanted something to hug. She wouldn't deny that she'd like someone to hug her too, but hugging a cat would be good enough for her at that moment. -
Dean walked over and sat down across from her and placed a steaming cup of green tea infront of her. "So.. Do you want me to start from the beginning?" He asked quietly and rubbed his knuckles with his other hand. He sighed quietly and rubbed his face wincing slightly.
This was all just one big mess. He wanted nothing but to save her and now here he was making another mess. He looke up at her with pleading green eyes and tried to get her to understand him. -
In one hand Saffron picked up the hot tea. It felt nice against her cold hands and she held onto it like it was her lifeline. With her other hand she held out the icepack for Dean to take. "Yeah, the beginning would be nice and probably easier to understand," she stated.
She looked into Dean's eyes again and she saw the look in his eyes. It was a pleading sort of look as if he was begging her to understand... understand what though? She kept her eyes on him, her dull blue eyes that were clouded over and lifeless... "You should take the icepack too." -
"I'll heal." He said quietly and sat back into the chair. "Okay so once.. I was human." He started out slowly and took in a huge breath. "And then I died. Do you know how everyone questions to what happens when you die? Well you either pass along to start another life, or become an Angel. And that's what I had become so I can continue protecting those I love." He ran a hand through his hair and looked her in the eyes. Those eyes that he wanted to see life in again.
"I failed to protect a human I was sent to watch because I fell in love with her. By falling for her I pretty much signed the papers for her death." This time Dean had to look away and swallow hard. "That group that was in here? We used to run around together. And for awhile.. I went dark and scary and I did a lot of things I shouldn't have. So, when I stood before the council they banished me and I Fell." He swallowed hard and closed his eyes. "A few nights later, someone drugged me and.." He paused.
"And cut off my wings." He said this part softly and his hands clenched into fist at his sides. -
All Saffron could do was drop the ice pack in her hand and squeeze the cup of tea in her other hand. She stared at Dean, her eyes blank and confused. Was he crazy? Or was he just messing around with her with some sick joke? But the look in his eyes before he looked away from her, the pain in his voice almost made her believe. She was still having a hard time understanding though because it sounded a lot like what her mother would say when she was high on Meth. Either he was telling the truth or he was just really crazy to the point where he believed all that himself.
But it could be true, couldn't it? God and angels and the Fallen? She was a Christian and believed in God and everything, but her faith was really shaken because of the conditions she was growing up in.
"So..." she said, trying to sort everything out in her mind. "So you're... a Fallen Angel, then?" -
Dean rose up and yanked his shirt up and over his head. Keeping his head down he turned around slowly so she could see the scars running the full length of his back, parallel and slightly puckered as if something was under the skin. "Yes." He said softly and looked down at the floor.
At that moment, Dean felt completly naked. As if he had cut open his chest and left both heart and soul vurniable and showing for this girl behind him. Only one other person had made him feel this way.. And she was dead. -
The scars that she saw... the horrible long scars that she saw... She couldn't find the words to say anything. All the words the popped into her mind didn't seem right, so she just kept quiet. The scars didn't seem like any other normal scar. It was as if there was something under his skin, like some sort of bone maybe? As far as Saffron knew, humans didn't have bones there, so that only made her faith in what Dean had told her grown even stronger.
She slowly stood up, the cup of tea still in her hand. She walked over to him and reached her hand out and carefully traced the scars on his back. "My mom does drugs," she states softly. "Meth. It makes her go crazy. She would see things that weren't really there. One night she got scared, really scared and she grabbed me and held me close while screaming 'come and take her' over and over again. She thought there were demons trying to get me and take me away."
Saffron closed her eyes and sighed. She opened her eyes again and looked away from the scars while taking a step back. "You sound utterly crazy," she states simply. "But I think it's even more crazy for me to believe you..."
She didn't even know why she believed him. Maybe because of the scars? What convinced her? Maybe it was just so confusing to her that she just agreed to go along with it? She still believed him, and that's all that mattered.
"But I believe you."
She believed him.
