"They can't kill you if they can't find you." He countered. "I'm not going to do anything to you, I just need to keep you here so I don't get killed... Who are you, anyway? How did you find me?" He asked. He hadn't seen her in the village, and he didn't know why else she would've been in the woods.
-
"...I'm a servant of the Order. An Oracle Knight. My name is unimportant." As she said those rehearsed lines, she pondered her situation. Maybe she still had a chance of getting back and explaining herself.
-
His eyes widened in realization at the mention of the Order. He knew just how corrupted the Oracle Knights were. "So...you were going to kill me?" He asked quietly. It seemed like everyone was trying to kill him lately.
-
"Those were my orders." She responded, looking over at him. Truth be told, it was a kill or be killed situation. This had been her last chance at proving her loyalty.
-
He frowned and resisted the urge to back away. "Well, you don't have to kill me now, okay? I'm keeping you here." He said, trying to sound more sure of himself than he was. The girl obviously had magic, and although he could certainly fight her, he wasn't sure he'd be able to win.
-
"Who are you?" She asked, trying to steer the conversation away from herself.
-
"My name's Nicholas." He said simply. He definitely wasn't going to give his last name, or any other details. She wouldn't even give her own name, so he didn't feel inclined to tell her anything more than his own.
-
"Nicholas...."She nodded, then looked away again. "I..am Veriti. Veriti Chrysaor. I'll be honest with you. I didn't really plan on killing you in the first place. I was hoping to stage your death.." She muttered.
-
He brightened up a bit at her last remark. "Thank you, then. But, how would you have done that? They would've wanted proof I was dead."
-
"..I know a few spells. It isn't too hard to make a glamour to turn a rock into your head." She replied, smiling softly with a spark of pride.
-
"Really? Can you show me?" He asked, a hint of excitement in his voice. People possessing magic had been a danger to him his entire life, but magic itself had always fascinated him. "What else can you do?"
-
"I don't really...I mean, it exhausts me to use that sort of magic." She said, looking down, now a bit embarrassed.
"..Back in my village, I was a healer. I could regrow flesh and mend bones." -
"Oh, if it tires you out then nevermind. But that's really cool." He added with a grin. He was a little dissapointed about not seeing any magic, but so far he was out of that cage and unhurt, so he wasn't going to argue.
-
"Mhm." She said, glancing at the room again. She wasn't used to talking about herself. And she didn't know if she liked it.
