"Do you need anything else, Brandon? Today's my grocery run day, so I'll be gone for about an hour." Magnus bit his lip, staring at the younger boy. "Will you be fine?"
-
"No," he sighed, turning back forward to face the wall. He felt as though Magnus' reassurance that he didn't mind him being there hardly meant anything. "I'll be fine."
-
"Alright. I'll see you when I get back, okay?" He stood up, pushing the chair in. He grabbed his sports jacket, flinging it on. "Don't let any strangers in."
-
"I won't." He folded his hands together in his lap, silently watching Magnus get ready to go. As a second thought, he added, "Goodbye, Magnus."
-
"Goodbye, Brandon." Magnus grabbed the car keys off of the wall. He left the room. When he got out to the garage, a smile taking over his face. Brandon used to say goodbye a lot whenever Magnus went out before the whole army thing. To hear him say it again made him happy.
-
Brandon didn't move from his seat. All he could think about was how unhappy he was. He was always crying, or in pain. And he was always a trouble for Magnus. Even if he didn't say it, he could tell Magnus was getting fed up with him. After a few minutes, he stood up, shuffling to the bathroom, and opening up the medicine cabinet. He gripped the bottle of his sleeping pills, and sat down in the corner, twisting open the cap and staring at the pills.
-
Magnus got in the car and left for the supermarket. He parked in the nearest spot and jogged into the store. It didn't take him long to grab what he needed.
-
Brandon couldn't decide if he should actually do it, and down the pills. If he was worried about being a trouble, it may be even more of a problem for Magnus to come home and find him dead. But then, at least it would be the last trouble. He wasn't sure how long he sat there, but after a while he poured the pills into his now-shaking hand.
-
When Magnus got back into the car, he realized that something was wrong. Brandon said goodbye. Brandon hadn't said that for a while. "Crap! BRANDON!" He started it up, exiting the parking lot and speeding back to the house.
-
Brandon closed his eyes, taking a breath to try and steady his hand. He knew Magnus would be home soon, since he never did take long to go shopping. In one swift movement, he opened his mouth, and swallowed half of the pills in his hand. The other half were too much to swallow at once, but he had a feeling the half would be enough.
-
Magnus almost ran right into the closed garage door. He stopped the car, running out to the ground door. He had to fumble with the keys to get them into the door to unlock it. As soon as he got into the house, he bolted to the dining room. Brandon wasn't there. In fact, he couldn't hear Brandon at all. "BRANDON!" He screamed. "BRANDON! WHERE ARE YOU?"
-
Brandon was already starting to feel light headed by the time he heard Magnus yelling for him. When he instinctively looked to the door, he realized he'd never closed it. He forced himself to stand, shuffling over to the door, pressing it shut and locking it before he fell back to the ground.
-
Magnus heard a door close. He ran towards the sound, his eyes wide. Brandon had locked himself in the bathroom. That gave Magnus two reasons to call 911. Without hesitation, he grabbed his phone, dailing the number. "M-my friend just locked himself in the bathroom. I can-can't tell if he's bleeding out or if he just took something, but I know he's depressed. We're on 8089 Belk Av. Please hurry!"
-
Brandon sank down into laying down on his back, lolling his head to the side. He heard Magnus on the phone, and began to panic. "No, Magnus-" he groaned.
-
"Dammit, Brandon! How could you do that to me? I told you I didn't mind, you dick!" He slammed his fist on the door. "Come out, right now! You can't die on me so soon. As soon as they get here, I need you to be brave and live for me.. Open the damn door!"
