Rosario stuffed it into his pocket, gave Drake one more smile, and headed downstairs and outside.
-
Drake shut his door, and went to his bed, feeling like a teenage girl with a crush.
Outside, Arcelio was waiting in his car, tapping the steering wheel. For one, he couldn't believe Rosario would walk out of the house like that. Two, he went home with a stranger. Sure, the kid knew their number, but Rosario was still pretty dumb to go with who Arcelio remembered as the boy who rode a motorcycle that would wake Angel up in the middle of the night. -
Rosario got in the car without a word, slumping down in the seat, his cheeks still red. Before Arcelio could say anything to him, he mumbled a quick, "I want my dad."
-
Arcelio had already decided he was done trying to get through to Rosario. When the boy asked for his dad, he tossed his cell phone into his lap after unlocking it. From there, he would let Ro figure out how to find the number himself.
-
Rosario stared blankly at the phone. "I don't want to talk to him, I want to see him." He tossed the phone back, glaring at Arcelio. "And, don't throw things at me."
-
"Well, there's nothing I can do about that. He's at work and you'll just have to wait until he gets home." He started driving back down the street, toward their house.
-
"Take me to his work.' Rosario was done with Arcelio, completely.
-
"I can't just-- oh my--" Arcelio bumped his forehead against the steering wheel, took a breath, and kept driving. "I've got to go get Angel first."
-
"Fine. Pick up Angel, and then take me." He had barely finished the last word when his vision started swimming, and a sharp pain shot through his side, causing him to double over.
-
Arcelio glanced over at him while he was talking, and brought the car to a slow stop. "...Ro?" He murmured, reaching out to let his hand hover over the boy's shoulder. He couldn't tell if he was crying or in pain, but either way it was worrying. "What's wrong?"
-
"Don't know," He managed, clenching the right side of his body. He didn't know what was going on, other than it hurt so, so bad. He let out a little cry, closing his eyes tightly.
-
"Are you hungry? When was the last time you ate? Or had water? Do you need to go to the doctor?" Arcelio really hoped it wouldn't get to that, because if it did, he wouldn't know what to do. They had no papers for Rosario, not like the fake ones that Arcelio and Rayson had for themselves.
-
Rosario couldn't even answer him, the pain was so intense. He just let out another cry, trying to sit up. He finally managed to detach a hand from his side, and he grabbed hold of one of Arcelio's! holding onto it tightly.
-
-
Arcelio stopped dead, because Rosario was in pain and he couldn't talk and they were mad at each other but this was still a kid that needed him and he didn't know what to do without the papers- he took a breath. "I have to call the school," he mumbled, getting out his phone and doing just that. While he made the call, he started driving again, riskily doing so with the phone on his lap on speaker and his other hand apparently in Ro's possesion. He told the woman who answered to send Angel home on the bus, and to tell her to go to the neighbors- they were trustworthy, he knew that.
