IHLAOY NewbieIsle of Swords is a book about pirates set in the swashbuckling age of sometime in the past. First published in 2007, it tells of sailors, pirates, and a mysterious group of monks all working to get a great treasure, the treasure of Constantine, which is hidden on an island surrounded by deadly reefs, traps, that sort of thing.
I figured it would be a fun setting to play in, as there isn't actually that many pirate roleplay, and much less that actually include fantastical elements. There's this, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Any questions on the setting, while I'm here? -
IHLAOY NewbieThough then again, maybe I shouldn't have told you that, keep it a surprise for your characters. Ah well.
Also, we certainly are going to get our fill of Dystopia in this one. Hunger Games, Divergent, 1984 and Maximum Rush. -
I'm good with that order. I've read all of them except Isle of Swords, but that one sounds cool and different. And we'll all get brainwashed in 1984 (as said), so that's a good one to end on. :-P
NOT IT!
Maximum Ride is a series about a flock of genetically engineered kids. They are all 98% human, 2% avian. Their leader is 14 year old Maximum Ride (aka Max) who is told she must save the normal humans from theimpending appocalypse. Also in the Flock are Fang (14), Iggy (14), Nudge (13), The Gassman aka Gazzy (10), and Gazzy's sister, Angel (6). They all have wings and assorted powers. The rest, I'm saving as a surprise. -
Cool. Both of those books sound awesome. I'm excited for this!

Alright I'm going to start it. I'm going to start it at The final battle of the Deathly Hollows.
The voice of Voldemort just finished ringing throughout everyone's head. I look around at the scared faces of students. -
IHLAOY Newbie(What a great place to start, where we can do absolutely nothing except sit back and watch the main character do his thing, great. Also, it's called the Deathly Hallows.)
Manford took a deep breath, letting the oxygen calm his soul. He wasn't a learned man, and reading came slowly to him; and even the movie's were too long when it he could be working instead. But he knew a dangerous man when he saw one. Almost cartoonishly evil, one might say.
He considered intervening, but that wasn't his place. He could just feel that this wasn't something he was supposed to be involved in. A finale confrontation, one might say.
Turning sideways, Guts picked out one of his companions. "C'mon kid. Lets get out of here. My guts say things are gonna get messy around here and I'd die if I let anyting happen to a kid." -
I shook my head. I knew how it ended, having practically grown up with the books, but the war...it was too much. I barely survived. But the black clothes I was wearing helped shield me a little.
I walked through the crowded hall, searching for something, but not exactly knowing what. Then I saw it- [i]him[/]. Fred Weasley, lying cold on the ground, surrounded by his family. "No!" I screamed, falling to my knees. Somehow, seeing him for real hit me harder than it did when I read about his death. "Fred," I sobbed. "Oh, Freddie, why? Why you?" A gentle hand touched my shoulder. I looked up to see the kind, battle-worn face of Molly Weasley. I sobbed even harder; she looked too much like her son. Molly enveloped me in a hug. "Hush, dear, it's alright."
"No it isn't. Fred is g-gone!" -
(Thanks[sarcasm], on another note, IHLOAY if you're just going to be insulting please leave, I don't want to deal with peoples s--- right now)
The amount of death was too overwhelming for me to stand. Sagging against the wall I look over the sea of death and destruction of my second home. Tears stream down my face, soft uncontrollable sobs escaped me. A wave of rage crashes over me and I can only think one thing and one thing only. "Voldemort will pay for these lives," -
"Goodbye." "I'll go with you!" volunteers Hermione. I shake my head sadly and place my hand on her shoulder. "No, I couldn't let you do that. I've got to go alone," Harry explains. And then he's gone. Hermione and Ron stand together on the steps, and I turn around to head to the Great Hall. Perhaps I can help heal the injured.

IHLAOY Newbie(Yo mate, I'm just pointing out that this was pretty much the worst place you could have started a story. Before the finale fight would have been great; you'd have the looming threat of invasion juxtaposed over the need to escape; and after the battle would have been great too; you'd have all the reactions a group of random teens would have over a huge scale battle, but during the fight? What on earth can someone do during the fight?)
Guts sighed. Didn't get no respect at work, didn't get no respect at home, didn't get no respect in magical fantasy wish world. Guess that was just the way it was.
Reaching forward, Guts draped an arm over Phillipia, trying to hold her in place with his strength, "Don't get involved, Phil. They're not real. They're a story, a group of words and letters. You and me...we're real, we get injured here, we don't walk it off. The best we can do is try and get through this, unharmed." -
Molly helped me up and walk over to the the rest of the Weasleys. A fresh wave of tears spilled over. "Mum...who's she?" George asked. I lifted my head out of my hands. "Maddie Tyler," I whispered, kneeling by Fred and taking his hand. "I- I had a crush on Fred for the longest time. I- it was always one-sided."
(Lol, one of my OC's in my Hogwarts rp is married to Fred) -
"I know Guts, but seeing these people, not just reading it, it... It just becomes too real for me," I say softly trying to get a grip back onto my reality.
-
IHLAOY NewbieGuts remained silent for a moment, as if searching for the proper words to say before deciding that, in this instance, there really wasn't any at all. "You wanna head back inside? The others are waiting for us and we'll probably be a bit safer. Besides, doesn't our side win in the end? They'll be fine."
Pushing himself to his full height, Guts removed his hand from the girl's shoulder. "Besides, the sooner we get out of this book the better, I have work in the morning." -
George put his arm around my shoulders. I leaned into him. "I wish I never came to fight." I whispered. "It was much too painful." Molly combed her fingers through my hair. "Where's your family, dear? Not..."
"No, they're not dead. They're actually in the States. I transferred from an all-witch's university after my first year. I- I was sorted into Hufflepuff when I got here."
