Okay! Okay! Don't go having a heart attack on me or something!)
We left off with: "I think Imll have a bit of fun with you, Mortal..."
The Avengers were all sitting round the table, eating breakfast. Most of them sat seated with warm eggs and bacon, but some differed their choices. Barton had cereal and Lucy picked at her toast, more crumbling it than eating it. She and Tony had both been strangely quiet this morning. The team understood Lucy's silence, she hadn't spoken at all after yesterday. But it was simply unheard of that Tony Stark would ever be...quiet. Little did the others know, he had good reason. -
Tony's dark brown eyes opened to meet stormy gray-green ones. Lucy glared at him menacingly. "Tell anyone about last night and I'll toast you like a marshmallow." She hissed. Tony swallowed, clearly seeing the sincerity in her flashing eyes. "Whatever you say, Doll." She sighed. "Good." And then she was gone.
-
After the meal everyone headed their separate ways. Steve, Lucy and Barton were training, Bruce and Tony were doing some background research, and Natasha had disappeared to who knows where. Megan was out on the balcony-deck near their bedroom. She was shaking ever so slightly. Her powers...she could feel the beast lurking inside her, never really gone. It was angry. It wanted to get out. Now. Meg shivered. "Are you cold, my lady?" She turned sharply to see Thor standing in the doorway. He was holding his own cloak in hand. "Oh, no, I was just..." She trailed off. Nevertheless, he moved forward and placed the cloak around her shoulders. Megan sighed comfortably, settling into the warm embrace of the fabric. Thor leaned over the railing at the rising sun, which painted the clouds brilliant shades of gold and rose. "It's quite beautiful, isn't it?" He asked with a soft smile. Megan returned the gesture. "Yes. It is." He turned to her. "You should see it from Asgard's palace. Two suns rising are even more stunning than one." She nodded, remembering the distant land of Thor's origin. He had briefly explained it to her last night.
-
Suddenly Megan's eyes widened and she shivered again. Thor's expression changed from content to concerned immediately. "Megan," he spoke warily, silently noting her quick breathing and panicked eyes. His hands reached out and took hers. He stared into her eyes and spoke calmly. "You can control it." She trembled. "I know you can." Slowly, her breathing slowed and her heart stopped pounding. The beast was silent. Tamed; at least for now. She fell forward, her head was spinning and she felt very weak.
Thor caught her with ease and held her close, catching her tears on his clothes. "You're alright." The last thing she heard was his promise. "I'll protect you." -
"I want to see them," Raven told Loki. "Please." He nodded. After hours of careful convincing, Loki had managed to get her to understand that he was not going to hurt her. To convince her he had given her a request. That had been her answer. "Anything, and you choose this?" He asked quietly. He looked troubled, his pale eyes drilling into hers, looking for some kind of explanation. None was offered. With a slight sigh, he waved his hand. A strange mist-like substance swirled in from the corners of the room, spiraling together to form a screen of some sort. The first image that appeared was Tony and Bruce. They were bent over another screen, muttering to each other in low voices. The image shifted to show Natasha, talking to Nick. The screen apparently couldn't transfer noise, but they seemed to be arguing. Raven's eyes were sad. The scene changed again, to show the large training area of the helicarrier. Clint drew an arrow back, letting it fly in a perfectly straight line. It hit the target dead on. A bullseye.
-
The screen panned forward, to Steve. His shield lay on the ground near him. He was attacking a punching with such ferocity that Raven was surprised it hadn't flown off the hook yet. The image blurred again and refocused only a bit away from the two men. Lucy was challenging her own punching bag. Her blows came fast and hard. Her expression was intense, and tears shone in her eyes despite the angry fire in them. Sparks flew from her fingertips without her realizing it. She was paler than usual, (Raven hadn't thought that was possible) and there were dark circles under her eyes. Raven gasped quietly. "Lucy..." Loki eyes the screen with suspicion as it altered for the last time. Megan lay in bed, her eyes closed. Sweat beaded on her forehead. She was obviously sick. Thor sat by the bedside, holding one of her hands. Raven gasped again, louder this time. "Oh no..." Loki raised an eyebrow and spoke in an even tone. "You care about them." It wasn't a question. More of an observation; a statement.
-
Her green eyes narrowed the slightest bit. "They're my best friends. My family." She glanced down. "Of course I care." But there was something in her voice. It was strained. Barely, but the god of mischief noticed. Loki was silent for a moment, thinking. She looked back up at him. The dark-haired Asgardian spoke again. "Do not try to lie to me." Raven's temper spiked and she jumped to her feet. Although she immediately regretted it, falling back onto the cot and wincing. Her leg was throbbing again. Still, she glared through the pain at him. "I do care," she insisted in a growl. To be honest, there had always been a part of Raven that she herself was scared of. An insatiable thirst for blood. The pain of others. She shivered. No. She would not wish that on her friends.
-
Megan awoke the a warm weight over her. She blinked her eyes open to see Thor. His eyes were closed and his head rested in his hands. He was leaning over her bed. She shifted slightly and he jumped awake. His expression immediately became relieved. "You're awake." Megan smiled softly and nodded. "Yeah..." She yawned. "What happened? I remember the balcony, but then..." Her brow furrowed as she struggled to recall the events of earlier. "You fell unconscious." Thor explained. "I carried you here." A faint blush passed over her. "Thank you." She said, smiling again. Her first impression of the god had been that of a stubborn, somewhat beast-like man. But in reality, he was really...sweet.
