I'm sorry, I need to stop. I can't think straight right now.
-
(Ok. We can continue whenever you feel like it.)
Marcus found his way to the bathroom. Washed his face, and toweled it dry. The feeling of an ordinary morning in a house was so good that he couldn't get the stupid smile off his face. -
Rithe cooked the remaining eggs, a slight smile crossing her lips at how nice it was to feel like the world wasn't f---ing them over. She could use some of the oats in the pantry.. Maybe make some toast. And it would be normal.
"Marcus? Do you like sweet oats, or plain?" she called without really thinking about it. She wasn't even entirely sure they had the things she usually used to make sweet oats in this house. -
"Ah, doesn't matter."
Marcus called out in reply.
"Isn't this too cool? I mean, everything's so...ordinary. After all the things we've been through." -
Rithe smirked.
"Something really bad has to happen soon. Nothing good like this can last." she called back, her voice trailing off. Why did that seem so much more terrible now? That their moments of false security should be interrupted.. She hated that idea. She almost wanted to stay like this- with a mask of happiness, but an underlying knowledge of danger.
I will leave you alone as soon as we get out of this mess.
Why had she brought that on? She didn't want him to leave. Not even when she was safe. They'd spent too much time together now. He was.. a friend? Yes, a friend, at the least. Her mind wandered around while her body roamed the kitchen, seeking out sugar and cinnamon, and honey if she could find any. When she finally resurfaced from her thoughts, she found that she's already started with the oats, and had found sugar and honey, but no cinnamon. She sighed disappointedly, and while waiting for the oats to cook, started cracking eggs. -
Marcus sat on a chair near the kitchen. Relaxing and not worrying about what awaits them next wasn't so easy as his thoughts immediately went to those issues. He had to find his family, but with this war, god knows what might've happened to them, or what might happen to him.
He used to have a life before all this, a family...friends...school...a future. But now, he was in the middle of nowhere with a girl who didn't like him and had clearly stated it. His future was unknown, whether or not he would be alive by tomorrow was unknown. Everything seemed so...dark. So sad. So disappointing. -
Rithe finished preparing everything and stood back to look it over for a moment. It looked like a pretty average breakfast.. She'd have preferred to make bacon or sausage with it, but there was no telling how long that meat had sat in the disfunctional freezer, and she wasn't taking that chance.
She set the table elegantly, looking for anything to make it seem like a nice home, anything to remind her of her normal life before this had started. When she was satisfied with the table, she took a seat.
"Marcus! It's ready!" she called, and sat quietly, waiting for him before she could eat. -
Marcus took a seat in front of her.........and ate his break fast...

"Thank you. That was delicious."
The crabs couldn't compete. -
Rithe smiled, happy to have been useful.
"Glad you liked it. Cuz now we're out of eggs." she said, standing up and collecting the plates. She carried them to the sink, and filled it with water without a thought. The idea that this was someone else's house presented itself now, when she started cleaning up. Should they take the responsibility of leaving it how they found it? Clean it up altogether? Would the original owners ever even come back?
She couldn't decide, and ended up cleaning all the dishes anyway.
"So, what're we gonna do today?" she asked. She wished she didn't have to, but it would get brought up eventually. -
"I have no idea...Do you think we should leave? How much food is left?"
The idea of leaving here, safety, and going out there where god knows what might happen wasn't a pleasant one...but it had to happen eventually. -
Rithe paused in her cleaning and glanced over at the fridge.
"Given the perishables that'll go bad pretty quick without the cold... There's a bunch of cans and boxes in the pantry... I'm thinking a week's worth, tops." -
"Um...let's see. What's your plan for future? Like after you're safe. Maybe based on our plans we can think of what to do next."
-
Rithe blinked, glancing back at him for a moment before looking back at the sink, lowering her hands from her work at the dishes. She chuckled lightly.
"My plans? I guess I want to find my cat. That's about all." she murmured. She didn't have siblings. Her parents had kicked her out last year. She had nothing but her cat to think of anymore. "So I guess if I can find him, then it's your plans that will be more important. I'll help you with them." -
"No...No...You don't have to. I uh, don't want to bother you."
Marcus paused for some moments, taking in her words.
"My plans are to find my parents, if they're alive." -
Rithe kept her eyes on her work this time, careful not to look back.
"It would be no bother for me to help you look." she mumbled, finishing the last one and starting to dry it. "The cat is my only priority otherwise.."
Papa, I need to go make dinner. We'll have to resume another time. x3
