The world is meaningless.
There is no god or gods, there are no morals, the universe is not moving inexorably towards any higher purpose. All meaning is man-made. So make your own and make it well. Do not treat life as a way to pass the time until you die. Do not try to "find yourself", you must MAKE YOURSELF.
Choose what you want to find meaningful and live, create, hate, cry, destroy, fight and die for it.
Do not let your life and your values and your actions slip easily into any mold, other than that which you create for yourself. And say with conviction, "This is who I make myself."
Do not give in to hope. Remember that nothing you do has any significance beyond that which imbue it. Whatever you do, do it for its own sake. When the universe looks on with indifference, laugh and shout back, "fuck you!". Remember that to fight meaninglessness is futile, but fight anyway, in spite of and because of its futility.
The world may be empty of meaning but it is a blank canvas on which to paint meanings of your own.
Live deliberately.

I'm not going to complain about this, but if you really think about it, what enjoyment really comes out of life? I assume the prime of your life is college years and shortly thereafter, what do you do to act in a free manner? You can hang with friends, party, drink, try different drugs, have sex. But there is always a point when earthly things come to an end. Nothing is eternal. You can raise a family and enjoy that later in life, as well as being grandparent. You can venture out and explore the world.
But I feel material possessions and experiences in life are somewhat overrated. Since there is no afterlife, what can be more satisfying than buying a new car, or a new game. Or going to different parts of the world and encountering different cultures.
I feel nothing here on earth can satisfy our thirst. It is almost like *popcorn. I just thought of this comparison now. But when you get into that habit, you start to crave more. More and more and starts to become a routine and for longer periods of time. It continues to progress and it will never stop. You can never be satisfied. Maybe you move on to new methods of satisfying hunger. You look for the next big thing to do and it is a continuous circuit. Maybe run relive old activities when new ones aren't holding up to your standard. When that gets old, you return to the new. The new stuff may last for awhile. It may last for quite awhile. But your thirst will never feel quenched.
These are raw thoughts and this probably sucks xD, but it is my view. It is a pessimistic one, unfortunately. It probably came from my religious background, but nonetheless it contains some kind of value here and there. I also apologize for the awkward sexual references.
Anyway, if one could post a more optimistic view of the world, I would appreciate it. -
I think he means to do something memorable, like maje painting or write a book.

theism doesn't prevent painting a painting or writing a book. Sure, they have doctrines which condemn certain trains of thought and disagree with various aspects of culture, but in the end theism is not holding one back. Religion should not be viewed as a burden, but more as a purpose to one's life.

A purpose how?

"they have doctrines which condemn certain trains of thought and disagree with various aspects of culture."
"theism is not holding one back."
Do you read this stuff?
Further more, we can still find purpose in our own lives. Like I said, the world may be meaningless but it is a blank canvas for us to give it a meaning. No God can give us a purpose in life. And you're doing exactly what I said not to do. You're treating life as nothing more but a waste of time until death.
I do find life meaningful. I may not be around to enjoy it forever, but I am okay with that. If I can make a lasting impression on the world and die knowing that I did what I felt was right, then I'm fine with that.
I don't have to sit there and smile in heaven, (ignoring the idea that countless billions of people are suffering in agony for all eternity) to be happy. That wouldn't be paradise to me. That would be madness. It would make the people in heaven more heartless than anyone in hell.
What would you do? Would you turn away and ignore everyone you loved? Or would you be completely oblivious to the fact that they're there? Heaven isn't paradise. It's complacency. -
I'd probably get ridiculed for saying something like "worshiping your God" because someone would reply by generalizing to mean "brainlessly bowing down to a God that doesn't exist," so I'm not going to say that. Though that is part of your purpose.
Others can be being a representation for others around the world of how to act. "be a light in our broken world" kinda theme
In Christianity, Christians are supposed to be mimickers of Jesus. Others are supposed to look at them and notice differences between them and your average Joe. An appealing difference. It says something in the Bible that your enemies will be swayed by ones dedication to God or something like that.
Obviously, very few Christians live like this and we're not doing our job. -
You can be moral but not reliogious. Of coarse, morality is what you persept it to be.......
