"An Atheist believes that a hospital should be built instead of a church. An atheist believes that deed must be done instead of prayer said. An atheist strives for involvement in life and not escape into death. he wants disease conquered, poverty vanished, war eliminated."
~Madalyn Murray O'Hair defining atheism as was necessary for the supreme court. -
"Morality is doing what's right despite what you're told. Religien is doing what you're told despite what's right."
(Not quite a definition, and I can't rember who said it. Oh well. :) -
ATHEIST --->"The belief that there was
nothing
and nothing happened to
nothing
and then nothing magically
exploded for no reason, creating
everything and then a bunch of
everything magically rearranged
itself for no reason whatsoever
into self-replicating bits which
then turned into dinosaurs.
makes perfect sense."
CHRISTAINITY"--->The belief that people are
destined to suffer eternally
because of misappropriated fruit
and can only be forgiven by
Magic Sky Daddy by eating the
flesh of his Zombie Son. Makes
even *more* sense." -
If atheism is a religion then off is a TV channel.

Atheism:
The belief that there was a series of virtual particles popping in and out of existence that through a false vacuum being the original source, compressed these into a tiny primeval atom in an inconceivably dense spot. And then a singularity occurred, causing the primordial universe to expand. Sub atomic quarks in the most basic elements annihilate each other at fast speeds, releasing energy and creating the first atoms whose nuclei, when combined, make other elements we know we are made up of to this very day and are found in comets and other planets, making this an emergent reality that would eventually have to fall into place. Having emergence, life is incredibly, but most likely not the product of the supernatural. Organic material such as protein combined forming amino acid which today make up humans and the genetic code. These proteins arranged themselves into self-replicating early cells which formed Precambrian organisms.
On a further note: Atheism does not equal advanced physics and biological abiogenesis. It's actual research that is out there, but religious f---tards don't take the time to understand it out of pure arrogance. But go around claiming that Atheists are the blind ones who don't want to praise a cosmic jewish zombie. And this was typed on the spur of the moment. -
Ah, science.

lilacodexed1234 NewbieATHEISM IS THE DENIAL OF OR ABSENCE OF BELIEF IN A GOD. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT PEOPLE!

Niecey Newbiei'm agnostic
(no way to prove a god exists)
but that doesn't mean im atheist
(they don't have a religion)
i'm not a christian tho -
Agnostic isn't a standpoint. I can't stress this enough. It's a fucking description. All agnostic means is "without knowledge". By claiming you are JUST agnostic you are literally saying you're just ignorant.
Atheist simply means that we do not believe in a theistic God.
I identify as an Agnostic Atheist. I do not believe in a theistic God because the evidence I do have points to the contrary. I wont admit to know everything, but with I do know, I do not believe. -
What you said Bob isn't much different from what Kish said. You're basically explaining that out of nowhere, something came out and turned into another thing and that other thing made this world. You just worded it differently.
-
My post literally was Kish's. But instead of "Nothing" and "Magic" I explained the actual science behind it. I filled in the holes in Kish's post.
And as I've said before, science doesn't claim to know everything. I'll admit it, we are not 100% certain how everything came to be, or even if there was a beginning. But with the evidence and facts we do have, we can draw a reasonable conclusion.
Atheism: Evidence without definite conclusion.
Theism: Conclusion without definite evidence.
Given those two options I will go with the one that will at least admit when it's wrong, and try to improve itself. -
Atheist=Claims a higher power didn't create universe and everything was created itself out of nowhere.
Religion:Their god is simply a dick while they claim it to be very kind and infinite(or whatever).
Both very logical. -
You cannot argue the importance of Logic and Reality, to someone who's entire opposition is the defiance of logic and reality.
Religion isn't very logical. But until critical thinking is applied, that wont matter to anyone else. -
Religion could be logical. If people read the CCC and understood the extreme amounts if symbolism in the Bible, they'd understand that religion doesn't defy science. Then maybe we wouldn't have all these creationist and homophobes.
I'm a Christian, yet I'd sooner respect the atheist over the Christian because atheists generally aren't homophobes whereas your Christians are. I seriously hate how Christians believe in a loving and merciful God, yet they hate on so many people and tell them they're going to hell because of the way they were born. It's messed up, man.
I hate people who claim to be Catholic but know nothing about the religion. They think they do because they "know the Bible." Well let me tell me you something, being a Catholic isn't being able to recite Bible verses. Being a Catholic is serving others. It's working the soup kitchen, it's giving to the homeless, it's volunteering at the animal, etc. and expecting nothing in return. Being a Catholic is loving God and His creation (and acknowledging that science is right about how it came about). Being a Catholic is loving, not hating. Being a Catholic is not judging.
So many people don't even know that. -
Sorry Rascal, but this is something that you and I differ on. Whilst I am happy that you see the bulls--- that is most of the religious community, claiming that we're supposed to see the bible as symbolic is equal bulls---. When it was written, none of it was to be taken symbolically. In fact, the entire book was implemented as law for hundreds of years. It only started to be taken "symbolically" when the horrors and atrocities in it were called in to question. Then suddenly we're supposed to only take parts of it literally and parts of it symbolically. That is bulls---.
By picking and choosing what you find is true or not, you are leaving room for other people to have a difference of opinion than you. You are leaving vague areas in the "infallible" word of God. You have no more right to say you're correct than any extremist, murderer, or rapist who says that God told them to do it. If anything, you're less Christian than they are because all of that is actually in the f---ing bible.
Where is the logic in expecting people to come up with the exact same opinion as you when you openly admit you're picking and choosing what parts you want to take literally? There is no logic to religion. There never has been and there definitely isn't now.
