Yet Athiests and non-believers shove their "proof that God doesn't exist" down the Christians throats.
Hypocrisy much? -
I agree. Just state some ideas and shut up, really. To both sides.
-
There is a very fine difference between skepticism and disregard. Most people associate me with the wrong side of this line.
A skeptic wants proof for a claim, where as someone who disregards something will demand that you're wrong even when you have proof. Consider this the next time you debate with an atheist. I have never told someone that they were stupid, unless they gave me a reason to. In fact, I have never met an atheist who will tell someone they're stupid without a reason. That's a pompous and ignorant in itself.
I have however seen several theists do exactly this. They disregard all evidence you present to them and demand that they are right. And when you continue to try and help them understand with logic and reasoning, they claim that you are shoving your beliefs down their throats.
No. We are not shoving beliefs down your throat. We are shoving facts down your throats. Things that we can prove are true. Don't associate atheists with that level of ignorance. If you've met one that acts that way, I find it hard to imagine someone like that, but I can sympathize with the feeling. Being talked to with a condescending tone and being told you're wrong when you haven't even given a claim yet. Sadly though, I have to say from previous experience that acting like that is a theist exclusive personality.
Learn the difference between forcing opinions, and forcing facts. Thank you and Good day. -
You believe these "facts" whereas we do not.
Hence, shoving beliefs down our throats. Case closed. -
Whatever you say Ozz. I can tell exactly how much of what I said actually sunk in.
-
It annoys me when you say, "I can tell very little of what I said sunk in." You're so up on a horse, that you naturally assume you're right. Yet that's the trait you discourage in others. I know that Christians are worse about this, but come on.
-
* I agree with your first few paragraphs though, just not the part about "facts."
-
If it can be proven, and logic points to it, we must assume it is factual until further evidence supports otherwise. Disregarding logic for willful obliviousness is a pet peeve of mine and irritates the crap out of me.
And when I stated "I can tell very little of what I said sunk in.", it was an arrogant retort to her arrogant and condescending tone with her "case closed" statement. -
But is what is so "factual" always true? How is there any evidence that your evidence is even true? Sure, you can go on and on that this is true and that is true and provide "facts", but how can you verify what is true and what's not true?
Anyways, all I'm saying is you can believe what you want to believe and we can have our beliefs, and we don't need to prove anything, and you don't need to. And even if I hadn't had said "case closed" Appay would still be right. Because I've noticed that in every 'debate' you start, you always think you're so right. -
Did you read your first paragraph? There were so many self contradictions in there it was almost funny.
So you're saying that you will turn a blind eye to anything that says you're wrong? Wow, that's a great way to evolve yourself. Tell me how that works out.
And yes, I do get smug with myself. As I've explained several times, it's a tactic of mine. And it works wonderfully. -
Hmm, okay, I get it. But there are occasions on which you say stuff like that which don't appear to involve "case closed" statements.
-
Why do fight and try to prove the other is wrong? You believe what you believe in and the other believe in what they believe Stop Trying To Change People! This goes to both Christians and athiest!
-
No, I will not.
Almost every single dark stain on humanities history is soaked in overtones of religion. I will not stop telling people how dumb they're acting, ever. As long as religion exists, I will do everything in my power to end it. I won't quit because someone on the internet doesn't like me fighting.
And Appay, if I seem to over react when it doesn't seem called for, the previous paragraph is a good starter to why. -
But religion does set most of the basic morals in society. Though I am athiest, you have to admit that religion, for the most part, is morally right. I do not agree with some things (anti-gay, for instence.) Most things, like don't steal, don't kill, don't lie, cheat, etc. Plus, no one can prove it either way, exept the dead, and they aren't talking, so........
-
IMO
Universal moral is a joke though. Religion just tries to cover it up. Lying, cheating, etc. are human responses to situations, even if they are malicious. We should make our own boundries and learn what is "good" and "bad" by observation.
