Thread Topic: What is the difference between Christian and Catholic?
-
I don't know which one to call myself O_o So, I believe Jesus is the savoir, only believe SOME passages in the Bible
because some scriptures are completely f---ed up, I believe in God, and Heaven/Hell.
I usually call myself a Christian, but idk if that's right O_o
Anyone know the difference between a Christian and Catholic? -
Catholics are Christian. They were one of the first denominations actually.
-
Christians pray to God only. In the bible it states that Jesus is our saviour and we should pray to him for assistance. In the first commandmeant it says to pray to one God and in the second to have no idols.
Catholics pray to Mary as well. They are also much strictor. In the older days students at school were whipped for disobeying the teachers. -
Alright, thanks guys! ^.^
Imma f---ing Christian!! xD -
I'm Catholic and yes, are rules are strict XD like how the priest can't marry or be in a relationship.
-
Catholics, as the others stated, pray to Mary, and also God, whereas Christians don't. I'm personally a Catholic, but I only pray to God and Jesus.

Catholics ARE Christians. There is no difference between Catholics and Christians. The question you mean to ask is what is the difference between Catholics and Protestants.
The main differences between the two branches have to do with how the church is governed. There is a broad and well-defined hierarchy in the Catholic Church, with the Pope being at the top and passing down religious doctrine. Also important is that Protestants believe faith alone will bring salvation, whereas Catholicism teaches that faith and good works together bring salvation. -
GermanUnicorn NewbieCatholics are Christians. Catholicism is a branch off of Christianity.

Um... okay ._.

Samantha2332 JuniorOk, if you're Christian, you're basically a little of everything. There's Catholic, Baptist, Morman, and I think more types of Christianity. I'm a Catholic, and we are pretty strict. We even do this thing called lint, where we are supposed to give something up that we love from a certain time, until Easter. I usually give up like soda, or chocolate or something in that nature.
-
I never give up something that I love. I attend a Catholic School and for Lent, we are supposed to give up chocolate or something and I never do ._. I think it's pointless.
Giving up chocolate or candy won't do any happiness would it? You're just making yourself suffer. I just can't bring myself to understand Catholics. -
Catholicism doesn't make much sense to me, no offence.
-
Samantha2332 JuniorAna, none taking, it's very complex.
Kirby: You do realize why we do it? Because Jesus our savior went 30 nights and 30 days, or was is 40, Idk, you get the point. He went all that time without food, and water. So we go the same amount of time without one thing. And it isn't very hard, it's quite easy. And we don't suffer anything! You don't have to give up food items, you can give up like game boys or, something like that. -
What's the point, though? Giving up something you love won't change anything. It won't change all the sins everyone is doing. It won't change anything...at all.
I just don't understand. -
Samantha2332 JuniorWe aren't trying to change anything, we are basically, from my understanding, showing appreciation for him saving us, and going those many nights and days without food and water. We don't give it up completely, just for as long as they went without the food and drink.
