Thread Topic: anyone here agnostic?
-
Got into this religion (studying it, I mean) a few months ago and it seems pretty awesome. Followers I've met are generally intelligent and don't cram their ideas down your throat like Atheists or Christians do and I really like the idea they have going.
So I want to know, is anyone else here Agnostic? -
o.o
I have some agnostic friends. -
I think my post on carri's link says my views on it.
-
I was at one time, but it never gave me peace.
-
does god bring you peace?
-
Very much. More than anything else in my life. :3

That I feel God has proven himself to me even if he didn't come right out and say it. That I don't need to worry about things that are out of my earthly control because he has a plan. That my living is not in vain and that things happen for a reason. That there is hope even in the darkest moments. There really are so many reasons why. I mean, I really can understand the atheistic point of view, especially due to many of the Christians and churches these days, but I keep other humans out of my relationship with God.

Atheism isnt just about being against theism.
I used to think that God proved himself to me, but as I learned more and understood more, that notion faded away. I also dont worry about things that are out of my control. It's just life. It keeps going no matter what. Life definitly isnt lived in vain. Only you can make it that way. And the reason you live for is the one you give yourself. Not someone elses agenda. Only your own. And as long as you try to improve your own situation instead of just sitting there hoping it will fix itself, there is still hope. -
Bob, you've made countless threads about your idea. Here's mine. I don't WANT to be an Atheist and I know countless others don't want to be either. Would you please stop trying to convert someone away from a faith they are happy with? -
Never mind. The link is gone for a second.

I'm not the one claiming that there's something invisible, incomporial, and all knowing, that can somehow be completely unprovable by science and yet somehow still controls the universe. For it to manipulate matter, it must have mass. This HAS BEEN PROVEN. So either give me solid proof or stick your head in the sand. You're the one saying that there IS something. The entire arguement FOR theism is that we cant prove that there isnt something. But we're not the ones who have to constantly add more and more details of nonexistant supremity to keep our belief plausable in a world of constantly growing technology. We're not the ones who claim to follow a book for our morals, but as soon as one negative part of that book is shown, claim that it's open to interpretation. Give me one reason why theism holds any superiority to atheism. Give me one thing that "proves" your God that I cant shoot down with a little common sense.
That is why I dont believe in your God. That is why I fight for others to see my point. I do it because humanity is fooling itself into a comfort zone. And they have never experienced a Godless world long enough to realize that every comfort that they thing God gives them, actually comes from them. I fight because humanity has become codependant on it's own imagination, and it's destroying everything we hold dear. -
I'm not claiming existence of God. I'm just open to the possibility that there is one. Why? Because I haven't died yet! Claiming that I have it all figured out when I've barely experienced anything is illogical! It's like saying, "I know everything about relationships even though I've never been in one."
And you know what? If a person is happy with their belief and isn't harming anyone, I don't believe in changing them. And whether or not it's "Destroying everything", causing them to hate Atheism due to your constant nagging is not going to help your cause a single bit. -
You're putting your faith in something without ANY proof. In fact, it's putting faith on something that we CAN prove was also written by men who hadnt died yet. So why to you trust them to know? THAT is illogical. It's like saying, "These guys havent been in a relationship, but I'm going to trust their word on what to do."
A person is happy. That is the root of that sentence. People can be happy without a God. Change is progress. That much has always been true. So helping someone NOT be codependant on their own imagination is definitly a change that will better us. And Atheism is already statistically the most hated group in America. And yet, every year more and more people abandon their bronze aged imaginary friend, and join us. That in itself should say something. I myself was once Christian. I did my research and refused to buy into God bothering. I'll listen to my own common sense, and the people who can defend their case with provable evidence. -
(Sorry for a late response, I really had a lot to deal with last night... And sorry for spelling mistakes too. Agh.)
I'm not putting all my trust in what they've said. I'm just liking their idea of NOT fully knowing what's out there and accepting it.
And gee, even IF we got rid of all religion, we'd still find something to find about. "As long as there is man, there will be war." If everyone became Atheist, I BET that we would then be fighting over branches of Atheism. Human beings naturally just that way. (okay, let's hope the following works out for me.) America. America has taken over, destroyed and killed off so much. There are people who just do not like us. But does that mean every single one of us should be destroyed or taken over? No. A lot of us make mistakes and we do have a bad history... but that doesn't exactly mean that America has only negatives. Now compare that with religion.
Being without religion may have worked for you, but that doesn't mean others will feel happy without one.
Plus, what's wrong with having an imaginary friend? I have one, named Mister Guy. Without him, I'd probably still be cutting myself or moping around all day like Bella f---ing Swan. It would be really nice if my imaginary friend were real, but I just don't have proof. But whether or not he's real, I still find comfort and am happy having him "around". He has still made a positive impact on my life. Some people find me really immature and messed up for having one, but you cannot argue with the results that I personally have gotten. That's kind of how it is with people and God.
I don't have a problem with you defending your cause either. Go ahead and be Atheist. Go ahead and defend your beliefs. That's 100% fine and preferred. But I just don't like how you act so surprised when people defend THEIR beliefs too.
