Thread Topic: I like felt so attatched to a different culture

I went to a Greek festival yesterday, and EVERYTHING felt as if I've here my whole life. I actaully felt like I belonged here. The food, music, dancing, outfits, everything. In fact, I was actaully born in Athens, Greece and moved to America when I was like four or five. I used to know how to speak Greek better than how I speak Chaldean right now. Then again, I'm not an actual Greek :L which bothers me a lot cause I felt more confortable at a Greek event than I do at my own culture's events.

I feel very attached to Greek culture too, but mainly just Spartans. When people ask me why, I can hardly come up with a "legitimate" reason.
I've never been around Greek culture in real life except for such events. -
That's kind of how I feel about some German culture (and I'm not just saying that because I'm a fangirl) :P I feel like I fit in so much better and am so much happier with whatever that culture offers.

Lil, you just described how I am with Japan. :3
I lived there for three years of my young life, though am not remotely Japanese in blood. It's not even about the anime and rock music (which I do really love). I love the food, the culture, the language, the land and people. I personally feel more at home in it than America. -
tongue AdvancedI feel alot of connection with Jewish American culture, as well as Irish culture, even though I'm only 1/8 Irish.
-
Wow I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like this :3
I'm a Chaldean girl who was born in Greece and has lived in California since she was little.
That always confuses me :\
@Ana: Have you ever thought it's because you were there you got attached and when you left you wanted to be closer? That's what I feel :\ -
Exactly. Dude I am literally speaking Japanese regularly lately, it feels weird being in public and speaking complete English. ._. I'm not fluent, but I know quite a lot. Plus, Maine is a pretty different place from Japan. :/

So is California compared to Greece. No snow in winter :\
-
Oh s--- I meant to erase the "no snow in winter :\"

I always felt kind of alone about how I felt about this, so when I saw this thread I was like "SO TRUE."
