I'm an atheist, but I want to know more about world-wide religions and it's doctrines, teachings, and books. -
You're an atheist. I don't think "atheists" should be doing that because atheists (most, not all) think they know everything and want to impress people by not having a religion and declaring that there is no God.
But suuuuuuure. Go ahead and see what "new discoveries" you make and be sure to report them back to mother ship.

Religous scriptures are important documents that have shaped cultures and can contain wisdom.
I recommend you read the tipitaka, quite a nice read. -

Yes, of course. If you want to learn something new, you shouldn't let your religion/lack of religion get in the way, and if you want to educate yourself about other people's cultures, then go for it.

It's upto you whether you study those or not. I am not Christian still I study or read The Bible with respect, but as a story book (no offence). I think it's okay to study religious texts, scriptures, etc. because they allows one to know more about the past, the future and the present and to gather information about li'l known or unknown religious things.

You can study it. Yes, you might be an atheist, but so what? It's up to you, too. If you want to, well, no ones stopping you. Your decision
P.S: What brought your curiosity to study religion? Is it for the sake of it?
