how every God wants to worshipped. Can't anyone make peace (or a world) without wanting a bunch of followers or fame or praise?

I worship because of love, faith and thankfulness. He doesn't demand to be worshiped and gives everyone free will. I think most people who are really dedicated see it as giving praise to their creator and joy and peace in their hearts.

I always saw it as a pledge of loyalty to the God you are worshiping.

What gives a god its power? It's followers.
The only reason your god is 'the true god' is because that god has a large enough fan base to proclaim it so. In 1,000 years the 'one true god' will be someone else. you're religious beliefs will be false and idiotic and theirs will be the undeniable truth. 1,000 years from then it will be some other god.
Anyways, what i'm trying to say is that the reason your 'god' demands followers is because without them, your god wouldnt exist. -
So much arguing over whether or not God exists.
You know what, I'm just going to follow my faith, and see what happens when I die.
