I don't believe God created the universe either but I think that religious people's answer to this is that he's all-powerful so no one created him.
I find it pointless to think about the beginning of the universe because even if I believe in The Big Bang, I start thinking about how could there just have been endless blackness forever and ever before it happened? -
I don't believe in the Big Bang either. As one person said whom I respect, "If you want something to go bang, you need to have something that can go bang."

You mean where did the stuff come from to create the big bang.. I guess it was just there like your God was just there. Neither makes sense

Both Science and Religion believe that from nothing came something, in Science's case- the Universe and in Religion's case- God...
Then we have people who believe that God was always there or it is a sin to ask such questions...
If you go back in time, the simplest explanation is that there was just darkness...
Science has proven that atoms can be created by nothing (an experiment in which a room with no air or any particle of sorts was observed and after a while atoms were found, so atoms do show up from no where...look it up)
The collision of atoms with tremendous force is enough to create large balls of gases and planets...
But even if this does explain the creation of planets, it doesn't necessarily explain the origin of various species
The difference with Science and Religion is that Religion has more Mythical Beings and "Prophets" whilst Science only focuses on facts,,,Moderator -
if you can accept that the world was created without design through chaotic process, you should be able to accept that a God could be created the same way..hypothetically speaking.

The thing about God is, is that just as there will be an eternity after the universe's death, there was an eternity before it's creation also, and that place was in which God resided. Now in the case of the Universe, even if you want to discard the idea of a God (which I'm not trying to do, but many others do) you can still explain the creation of the universe through the idea that there were previous universes, and the idea that in the multiverse, there are "slots" in which packets of energy are basically exploded to create universes. Nw, with the idea of God it does make all this simpler, but I do find it a bit dumb to just say "Well God cn do anything, so he created the universe" because the idea of every scientist, whether he or she realizes it or not, or even believes in a God, is to find out How He did it. All this means is that the events that seem like huge odds against what happened, yet it happened, turns out to be proof that there is someone behind the scenes, because such events wouldn't just come out of nowhere. God follows the laws of physics, so that we have something to understand, and something to rely on. And really, God didn't exactly need to be created in the first place, I mean some people suggest that the universe was always around, so what's the difference in concept with God always being around?
