If you know me, it should come as no surprise that I think the Seven Deadly Sins are total horses---. But not because I oppose anything even vaguely religious. No, because they aren't sins and they aren't deadly. For those of you who don't know, the seven are: wrath, lust, vanity, greed, sloth, gluttony, and envy. First of all, these aren't sins, they are merely characteristics we all share as humans. They are not crimes in and of themselves. The real sins, if you ask me, are the things that actually are criminal and truly hurt people, i.e. murder, rape, child abuse, stealing, lying. How it was decided that benign character flaws are worthy of being called deadly I do not know. I have my own theories but I'll leave that open to discussion for anyone who is interested.

The actions you list as sins, could be argued to stem from the traditional "seven deadly sins". It could be said that by perfecting yourself in relation to the seven deadly will prevent your involvement in criminal activity your talking about. All a matter of perspective anyway.

"There is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft... When you kill a man, you steal a life. You steal his wife's right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness."The Kite Runner

What about vandalism? Am I stealing a man's clean wall?
Anyway, I think the seven deadly sins are sinful not in the way that they're crimes in and of themselves, but rather in that they cause someone to commit crimes. Every one of the crimes you listed can be tracked back to one or more of the sins. They're the base, the things that crimes spring from, not crimes themselves. Whoever called them crimes anyway, that's stupid. No one has ever called the sins crimes. When has anyone ever been tried for being lazy or envious? (In my opinion, you're just looking for something to complain about.) Yes, everyone shares the sins, but that doesn't make them good. It just makes them common.
To use an (admittedly stretched) metaphor from the bible, the sins are the seeds, and crime is the fruit. Nurturing any of the sins results in bad things.
If it were up to me, I'd just call them 'traits of an a--hole,' but I'm not a church. -
Nobody knows what sins are these days.
There are so many sins, but they can be as simple as this:
lie. cheat. rudeness. cruelty. idolotry. using God's name in vein. adultry. murder. disrespect. sexual morality. etc. -
Now I know why the Pope hates Spongebob. All of the main characters are based off of the seven sins.

I think rape, murder, abuse are Crimes. I want to rename sins as crimea, the ons you listed.
