religion holds us back?
explain that to ancient Egypt, ancient Rome, Ancient Italy.
the only case where that is even remotly true is the dark ages -
People who believe in God are not "slaves" tongue, they just preffer to dedicate themselves to something.
-
tongue ExperiencedI don't believe that. Just think about Hitler and the Nazis. If we can have a policy of war as last resort, I think a social movement can advocate violence as a last resort.
-
who can truly declare when something is a last resort?
-
That's true Bob, how can you be so sure when non-violence fails?
-
Let me just point out there has by far been more wars started because of religion then by anything else.
-
tongue ExperiencedThat is a bit of a problem actually. And not in any situation would I advocate violence against Christians. I'm not going to say that I'm trying to liberate Christians from their religion, but in a sense that is what I'm trying to accomplish, and you can't really say you are freeing a group of people when you're slaughtering them. Unless you invade Iraq, of course.
-
And are you going to condemn them for it ellis?
-
Well if you think people who believe in God are unevolved people who suck ass then so be it, but I'll believe in what I want and leave you to rot in Hell.
-
Ork I'm just pointing it out cause it is something true so religious people shouldn't get so darn hung up on acting like they're the more peaceful between them and atheists.
As for that thing about knowing when violence is the last resort, that is obvious, when everything else has been tried. Not that I'm advocating violence.
So roe you really thing that me and tongue and atheists will rot in hell for our own beliefs? -
tongue ExperiencedI agree with you on your last point Ellis. The Israeli-Palestinian crisis has been ongoing for several decades now, and it's all about religion and who has the right to a small chunk of land. If the Christians, Muslims and Jews living in Jerusalem put aside their religion and just shared the land, I think they could live together quite easily.
-
tongue ExperiencedPS I think rot in hell was just rhetorical, like when your girlfriend tells you you're a pig and to go to hell.
-
lol Tongue, you wanna hear a quote I like?
"Science flies you to the moon; religion flies planes into buildings"
Don't know who said it but my bro has a shirt with this on it and an animated pic of september 11th. -
I dont like this... You two are using the most radical examples of the worst side of religion and using it as a frame of refference to inforce your opinions.
-
Lol if you think that is bad ork you should see some of the things I have to deal with people spitting out when I argue with people hating on me for not eating meat and the religious nut jobs out there that have just randomly approached me in public places to try and convert me to their religion. -_-
I'm not really using the most radical I'm just pointing out the fact the statics and my own opinions. I really haven't said anything to bad at all really.
