The original constitution of the United States that was ratified in 1789 had only one reference to religion: [Article 6] No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.
And now we find ourselves having to swear to a bible to become president or speak in court
The de facto motto of the United States, adopted as part of the Great Seal of the US by an Act of Congress in 1782, was E. Pluribus Unum (Out of many, One).
Congress changed it 174 years later (1956) to "In God we Trust".
The original 'Pledge of Allegiance' was written in 1892 by Baptist Minister Francis Bellamy who DID NOT INCLUDE the words "Under God."
Those were added by Congress 62 years later (1954)
The US didn't issue paper currency until 1861.
And 'In God we Trust' didn't appear on it for 96 years (1957)
Just after the Red Scare in the 1950's, congress changed the pledge of allegiance and our nation's motto over the FEAR of COMMUNISM.
Quite literally; associating religion and government in the US is so unpatriotic that it's actually giving in to Communism.
This is what we see every day. In some states it is illegal for someone without a religious affiliation to hold a public government office.
To all those Christians who say, "why do you bother? Why not just ignore Christianity? It doesn't bother you." I call bulls---. -

Christians when the topic is science:
Evolution? The Big Bang? Global Warming? Being born gay? They are all just theories! I need tons more proof than that!
Christians when the topic is Christianity:
Proof? You don't need proof! That's why it's called faith! No evidence required! -
Global Warming is true

How is adding religion to government giving in to Communism? I think it's silly to have to be religious to have a foothold here, though.

Appay, the United States congress added Christianity to our money and our pledge to try and keep Americans from converting to Communism. If God loving Christian Americans associate God with America, then they can't possible become communists. (As the thinking goes)
